Kashi Jewellers Implement Strict Security Rules: Face Coverings Not Allowed in Varanasi Gold Markets

Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh: Following incidents in Jhansi, jewellery markets in Kashi are now enforcing strict security measures to ensure safety for both shopkeepers and customers. Under the new directive, individuals wearing burqas, hijabs, helmets, masks, or any other face coverings will not be permitted to enter jewellery shops or make purchases.
Kamal Singh, president of the Varanasi unit of the Uttar Pradesh Goldsmith Association, stated: "We will not sell any items to customers who hide their faces. This is necessary because in case of any incident, it becomes difficult to identify the person responsible. For safety reasons, we request that customers remove their face coverings when entering the shop so that we can ensure security and peace of mind."
The guideline has been communicated to all major jewellery hubs across eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Resham Katra, Thatheri Bazaar, Sudiya, Govindpura, Chhattatala, and Karnaghanta. Shops have also displayed posters informing customers of the rule.
Jewellers clarified that the move is strictly for security purposes and is not intended to restrict personal or religious attire. With Varanasi’s gold markets bustling with activity, shopkeepers and authorities are urging customers to comply with the new rules to maintain a safe shopping environment.
This step comes as part of a broader effort by market associations to prevent thefts, robberies, and other incidents, prioritizing the safety of both patrons and business owners.
