FIR After Kargil Veteran Alleges Iron Rod Assault at Magnum Park

GURUGRAM: Sector 65 police have registered an FIR after retired Indian Air Force Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta alleged that a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park struck him with an iron rod during a parking dispute, leaving him with a serious head injury and a fractured elbow.

Gupta, who police said was part of the Indian Air Force's Operation Safed Sagar team during the 1999 Kargil War, went to Magnum Global Park in Sector 65 on the night of 10 September with his family for dinner at Gonzo restaurant. In his complaint, he said he dropped his family at the restaurant around 8 pm and went to park the car. He alleged that parking staff directed him between valet, basement and multi-level parking and then refused to park the vehicle after making him move repeatedly.

According to the complaint, the situation worsened when he tried to reverse. He alleged that an attendant first tried to smash the front window, then returned with an iron rod and struck him on the hand and on the head. He said he was covered in blood, that security guards and other parking staff present did not help, and that a chef from the restaurant intervened. He also alleged that a police helpline call brought officers only after about half an hour. He was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery and said a plate was fixed to his elbow bone.

Gupta sought registration of a case, including for attempted murder and grievous injury. Sector 65 Station House Officer Rambir Singh said an FIR was registered under Sections 115(2), 126(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown accused, that other sections could be added based on doctors' opinion, that a probe was under way, and that the accused would be arrested. ACP Abhilaksh Joshi said an altercation between parking staff and Gupta had taken place at Signature Magnum under Sector 65 police station jurisdiction, and that CCTV had been used to identify suspects.

Police accounts also noted that Gupta initially indicated he did not want legal action and later submitted a complaint on Sunday night, after which the FIR was registered on Monday morning. Gupta has separately alleged that the medico-legal record prepared at the hospital did not correctly reflect bleeding from the head or the elbow injury. Those claims form part of the material investigators say they are examining.

Commercial parks and restaurant clusters in Sector 65 draw heavy evening traffic, and parking disputes are a recurring friction point for visitors. Investigators said they were matching CCTV timelines with the complaint narrative and medical findings before locking the identity of the attendant alleged to have used the rod. The case remains at the allegation and investigation stage. No conviction has been recorded, and the unnamed accused has not yet been produced in court as per the latest police briefings.
