MUMBAI: JioHotstar on 29 September 2026 introduced Tara.ai, an agentic planning platform for brands that combines brand knowledge, content intelligence and deterministic audience data for media planning. Bhaskar Ramesh, Head of Entertainment Sales, Digital at JioStar, presented the platform at FICCI Frames 2026.

Tara.ai is built to pull together signals that planners usually juggle in separate tools: JioHotstar content graphs covering shows, cast and genres, brand-safety tags, and audience segments that include co-viewing and frequency. The company says it leans on deterministic audience data rather than only probabilistic estimates, and layers in a brand knowledge graph plus cultural-movement context relevant to each brand.

The aim is attentive reach in premium connected-TV environments, not only raw reach counts. JioHotstar said it will begin testing alpha versions with partners soon after the Frames unveiling.

What "agentic planner" means here

Ramesh called Tara.ai "India's first agentic planner," positioning it as a system that can run a sequence of planning tasks toward a defined objective instead of answering one prompt at a time. Access to JioHotstar's content graph, brand-safety classifications and deterministic segments is the core inventory advantage he highlighted.

For brand teams buying living-room inventory, the practical promise is fewer hand-offs between content research, audience shortlists and brand-safety checks. Whether the agent actually drafts plans that media leads will approve without heavy edits will only show in the partner alpha.

Connected living rooms and premium streaming inventory are the commercial backdrop. JioHotstar is tying its own show-level and genre-level understanding to brand planning so campaigns sit closer to titles and audiences the platform can document, rather than relying only on third-party black-box segments.

Limits of the announcement

Pricing, self-serve access and a public feature list were not part of the Frames launch. Brands interested in the alpha should ask their JioHotstar sales contact for test scope, data-sharing terms and how Tara.ai outputs land in existing buying workflows.

Agentic planning tools are multiplying across ad tech; JioHotstar's edge claim is first-party content and audience depth on its own CTV and premium video surfaces in India. Until alphas return measurable plan quality, treat 29 September as a product unveil with a clear India streaming angle, not a finished media-operating system.

Indian CTV budgets are rising as cricket, film and streaming originals pull living-room attention. Planners still waste hours reconciling brand-safety lists with show-level inventory. Tara.ai's bet is that JioHotstar can productise that reconciliation with agentic steps on top of its own graphs.

Agencies should ask whether Tara.ai exports plans into existing buying platforms or only produces advisory decks. Alpha partners will also want clarity on how co-viewing segments are defined and audited. Until those answers arrive, treat the Frames unveil as a directional product launch with a strong first-party data claim.

Dalimss will watch how the next retail and enterprise checkpoints play out after this announcement window, including stock, access tiers and any official follow-up notes from the organisations named above.

Sales teams at large Indian brands already schedule Frames-week meetings around new platform toys. Tara.ai will need to survive the quieter weeks after the conference lights dim, when media leads ask for a reproducible plan on a single brand safety-sensitive category such as alcohol-adjacent or kids content. That quieter test will say more than the unveil slide.
