Haryana Approves 47-Acre Sector 33 HSVP Land for Metro Depot

GURUGRAM: The Haryana government has approved transfer of 47 acres of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran land in Sector 33 for a depot of the Gurugram metro project, to be held permanently at a nominal monthly rent of Rs 1 per square metre, a senior official said.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini cleared the transfer after Gurugram Metro Rail Limited sought the parcel from HSVP. GMRL is executing the more than Rs 10,000 crore project planned as a loop linking Millennium City Centre with Cyber Hub. At Rs 1 per square metre, monthly rent is expected to work out to around Rs 1.90 lakh for the full tenure of the transfer, the official said. Under the approved terms, HSVP will also receive adequate floor space in the proposed Metro Bhawan on the depot land, with half of that building remaining under HSVP ownership.

GMRL is separately seeking about 14,000 square metres in Islampur village for depot-related needs. Some of that land has structures and is privately owned. Negotiations are under way through the metro land purchase committee under the Gurugram metro land purchase policy, which provides owners 25 percent above market rates. A land acquisition department official said some owners have consented while others are still negotiating along the corridor.

GMRL floated the depot construction tender on 16 June and opened technical bids on 5 August. Six companies applied. A GMRL spokesperson said the tender process was in its final stages and that work to secure private land for the construction depot was continuing. The Sector 33 HSVP transfer is distinct from earlier requests for smaller station and commercial parcels elsewhere on the alignment.

Depot land is a critical path item for rolling stock stabling, maintenance and operations readiness. Without a secured yard, civil and systems contractors face sequencing risk even when corridor pier and station work advance. The nominal rent structure and shared Metro Bhawan arrangement are meant to keep public land in productive use while giving HSVP a continuing stake in the built facility.

City agencies have been under pressure to clear metro land bottlenecks after repeated reviews by the state government. The Sector 33 approval, reported over the weekend, gives GMRL a defined HSVP footprint for depot planning while Islampur private parcels remain in negotiation. Further notifications and possession timelines will depend on formal conveyance steps between HSVP and GMRL and on closure of the private land deals.
