GURUGRAM: Beekeepers in the district can seek insurance for specified losses to colonies and boxes under the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana, Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said in an announcement issued on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The statement sets a limit of 250 colonies and boxes per beekeeper and makes registration under the honey price deficiency scheme compulsory.
The provision is districtwide, so an eligible operator based along Sohna Road is subject to the same registration and identification conditions as one elsewhere in Gurugram. The announcement, published at 4.48 pm IST, directs beekeepers to the district horticulture officer for detailed information about obtaining the cover.
Which losses the announcement covers
The district administration's official release lists flooding that submerges bee boxes and colonies, destruction by fire, and losses caused by accidents during transportation. It also provides for compensation where an epidemic affects bees.
For a transport accident, the statement attaches two specific conditions: the accident must have occurred within Haryana, and an official First Information Report or Daily Diary Report must have been recorded. A beekeeper should therefore check those conditions with the department when asking whether a particular loss falls within the scheme.
The release describes cover for these identified risks. It does not give a general assurance that every reduction in honey production or every business loss will be reimbursed. Its practical value for an operator is the protection described for the colonies and boxes themselves, subject to the scheme's conditions.
Fees, insured amounts and registration
The announced insurance fee is Rs 50 per colony and Rs 50 per box. The corresponding insured amounts are Rs 1,250 per colony and Rs 1,250 per box. The two components are listed separately in the district statement and should be read separately when checking an insurance calculation.
- Maximum stated holding for cover: 250 colonies and boxes per beekeeper.
- Colony component: Rs 50 fee and Rs 1,250 insured amount per colony.
- Box component: Rs 50 fee and Rs 1,250 insured amount per box.
- Required registration: Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana for honey.
- Required identification: the scheme unit number on every box.
At the stated limit, the release gives a maximum insured amount of Rs 3,12,500 for the colony component and the same amount for the box component. These are the stated insurance ceilings, rather than a promise of payment to every registered operator. The actual handling of a loss remains subject to the applicable conditions.
Registration under Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana for honey is mandatory for this insurance benefit. Each box must carry its scheme unit number. That requirement makes identification of the insured units part of the process, alongside the limit on the number of colonies and boxes.
Where operators can check the next step
The district has provided the Haryana horticulture department's toll free number, 1800-180-2021, as an alternative route for assistance. The release does not state an application closing date, a claim filing deadline or the full set of claim documents. Operators should obtain those details from the district horticulture officer or the department before making arrangements on the assumption that cover is already active.
Related district reporting includes the earlier bajra procurement and price support update, ration depot application notice and Samadhan camp complaint process. Those are separate programmes with their own conditions; their application arrangements do not establish how this beekeeping insurance is administered.
