Government Launches ‘Home PTM’ Initiative to Reduce School Dropouts in Tribal Areas

n a new effort to improve school attendance and reduce dropout rates, the government has introduced a “Home Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM)” initiative in several tribal regions. Under this programme, teachers from Eklavya Model Residential Schools will visit students’ homes to interact directly with parents and understand challenges affecting school attendance.

Officials believe the initiative will strengthen communication between schools and families, particularly in remote communities where parents may not regularly visit schools. By conducting PTMs at students’ homes, educators can better understand social and economic factors influencing learning and attendance.

Teachers involved in the program say the initiative also allows them to guide parents about academic progress, attendance requirements, and support systems available for students. Education experts view this as a step toward community-driven education, encouraging families to play a more active role in their children’s learning journey.
