Police FIR After Golf Course Road Biker Hit

GURUGRAM: Police have registered a case after a viral video showed a four-wheeler allegedly hitting a woman motorcyclist from behind on Golf Course Road, with investigators saying they acted on their own even though the rider had not lodged a written complaint by Monday afternoon.

The Social Media Monitoring Cell of Gurugram Police flagged the footage on Monday morning. An FIR was registered at Sector 56 police station against the car driver, officials said. Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhilaksh Joshi said the cell intercepted a video of a four-wheeler striking a female two-wheeler rider from behind on Golf Course Road, that police had contacted the woman involved, and that the force had taken suo motu cognisance before registering the case.

The incident, according to the rider identified publicly as Sia, took place on Sunday while she was riding an Aprilia sports bike with a local biking group. In material she shared online, she alleged that occupants of a car had been following her, appeared intoxicated, and asked her to stop. She said she asked them to keep distance and tried to move ahead, while a friend riding behind positioned his motorcycle to shield her. She alleged the car later cut across her path, knocked her off the bike and dragged the motorcycle several metres before fleeing.

Sia said a friend chased the car and confronted the driver at a traffic signal, that the driver denied responsibility and drove away, and that an action camera on her motorcycle recorded the sequence. She appealed to police to investigate and shared the vehicle registration number in her post. Reports of her condition after she was taken to hospital described serious injuries. Police said they were still gathering her statement as part of the probe.

The registered owner of the car, identified as Manish, told reporters he was not driving when the collision occurred. He said he works in the Army, that a friend named Kalyan Singh had borrowed the vehicle about two days earlier, and that he learnt of the accident only on Monday morning. He said he had called Kalyan Singh without getting a response and had sent relatives to his house in Palwal district. Later remarks attributed to Manish also referred to another person taking the car from his friend, with neither that person nor the vehicle then in contact with him. Police said the driver's identity was being traced through the vehicle and that the accused would be identified and apprehended.

ACP Joshi said investigators would include the woman in the inquiry, act on the facts that emerge, and continue monitoring rash and negligent driving cases citywide. He said the force would take suo motu cognisance even without a formal complaint where warranted, and cautioned against spreading baseless rumours about such incidents, calling that a legal offence. Police described a special cell as watching such cases closely.

Golf Course Road carries heavy evening and weekend traffic between office and residential clusters. Viral road videos often trigger public pressure for swift police action. In this case, officials stressed that registration of the FIR and efforts to reach the rider began from the monitoring cell's interception rather than from a counter complaint at the station. Further sections and charges will depend on medical records, CCTV from the corridor, and statements recorded during investigation. Allegations against the driver remain under probe and have not been tested in court.
