Gau Raksha Par Bada Sawal: Shankaracharya Cites Export Figures

Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Questions ‘Gau Rakshak’ Image of UP Government, Cites Meat Export Data
Varanasi — Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, in his continued remarks to Dalimss News, also questioned the public image of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as a strong advocate of cow protection, alleging that the image does not fully match official trade figures and ground realities.
Speaking on the issue of gau raksha, the Shankaracharya said the perception of strict cow protection in the state is largely a “public image,” and claimed that available government and trade data indicate that a significant share of India’s bovine meat exports are linked to Uttar Pradesh. He argued that this raises serious questions about enforcement and monitoring.
He further stated that authorities often describe the export category as buffalo meat, but claimed that when comparing livestock population patterns of cows and buffaloes in the state, there are inconsistencies that, in his view, warrant deeper scrutiny. Based on this comparison, he alleged that cow slaughter may be occurring under misclassification, and called for transparent verification of records.
Swami Avimukteshwaranand also said that his office and associated religious groups receive videos and messages from different places where meat products are allegedly labeled as originating from Uttar Pradesh. He said such material is being collected and reviewed, and he urged authorities to investigate the supply chains thoroughly.
He reiterated his previously announced 40-day deadline to the state government to demonstrate concrete action against cow slaughter and beef trade, stating that measurable enforcement outcomes would be the true test of commitment to gau raksha.
No official response has yet been issued by the Uttar Pradesh government regarding these specific allegations. The claims are likely to trigger further debate and calls for data-based clarification from concerned departments.
