Varanasi, July 6, 2026: Free ration distribution under the National Food Security Act begins in Varanasi from July 6 and will continue till July 20 for eligible cardholders.

Antyodaya and priority household cardholders can collect their allotted food grains from fair price shops during the distribution period. Beneficiaries should visit their designated shop according to local timings and follow the instructions issued by the shopkeeper or supply department staff.

Cardholders are advised to carry their ration card and required identification while visiting the shop. Keeping a mobile number linked with the ration card, if applicable, can also help during verification. Families should check the quantity received and ask for a proper receipt or confirmation wherever the system provides it.

Antyodaya cardholders may also receive sugar as per eligibility if it is included in the local distribution order. Beneficiaries should confirm the entitlement at their fair price shop and avoid relying on rumours about quantity or dates.

The July distribution window is important for low-income families because free food grains help manage household expenses during a period when monsoon-related disruption can affect daily wage work and transport. Regular and timely supply also reduces crowding at shops toward the end of the month.

Residents have been asked to avoid unnecessary rush and cooperate with shop timings. If a cardholder faces denial despite eligibility, short supply, overcharging or misbehaviour, the matter should be reported to the concerned supply office or local grievance channel. Proper distribution depends on both official monitoring and beneficiary awareness.

The department will also need to ensure that elderly cardholders, widows, persons with disabilities and families in distant localities are not forced to make repeated trips. Fair price shops should display distribution dates and available commodities clearly. Beneficiaries should avoid paying extra for free grain. If biometric verification fails, they should ask the shopkeeper about the approved alternate process rather than leaving without information.

Beneficiaries should not wait until the final day if their shop is distributing earlier. Early collection can reduce crowding and give time to correct any verification problem.

Local monitoring teams are expected to check shops during the distribution window.
