Delhi's Chief Minister's Office said on 12 October that Rs 7.91 crore in electric-vehicle incentives had reached more than 2,700 Delhi residents since 1 July. The payment update comes under the capital's final EV policy, which was notified on 30 June and took effect on 1 July 2026.

The official update reports an aggregate payment figure. It does not mean that every EV purchase qualifies for the same amount, or that all electric cars receive tax relief. The policy's vehicle-price limits, approved-model requirements and application deadlines still determine individual eligibility.

Check the model before booking

The final Delhi EV policy provides direct-benefit-transfer incentives for eligible Delhi residents purchasing and registering their vehicles in Delhi. Only models approved and empanelled by the Transport Department's Model Approval Committee qualify for purchase incentives. An electric badge alone is insufficient.

The operating guidelines require the authorised dealer to tell a buyer in writing, at booking, whether the selected model is eligible. The prescribed declaration is in Annexure VIII. That gives buyers a specific document to request before treating an advertised subsidy as part of their purchase calculation.

For electric two-wheelers, the ex-showroom price must not exceed Rs 2.25 lakh. In the first policy year, support is Rs 10,000 per kWh, capped at Rs 30,000. The policy covers eligible plug-in and battery-swapping models, subject to the approval and other requirements.

The formula reduces in later registration years: Rs 6,600 per kWh with a Rs 20,000 cap in year two, and Rs 3,300 per kWh with a Rs 10,000 cap in year three. The applicable year therefore matters. The maximum first-year amount should not be presented as a permanent subsidy for every future two-wheeler purchase.

Cars, autos and scrappage have separate conditions

Eligible L5M electric auto-rickshaws receive Rs 50,000 in the first year, Rs 40,000 in the second and Rs 30,000 in the third. Batteries below 4 kWh are excluded. The provision covers qualifying replacements of old CNG autos and new electric autos within Delhi's overall permitted auto-rickshaw limit.

For electric cars, the tax threshold is Rs 30 lakh ex-showroom. Cars at or below that price, purchased and registered in Delhi, receive full road-tax and registration-fee exemption until 31 March 2030. Cars above Rs 30 lakh receive neither exemption under the policy. The CMO's general reference to tax relief must be read with that cap.

A separate Rs 1 lakh scrappage incentive is available for eligible non-transport electric cars costing no more than Rs 30 lakh ex-showroom. It is limited to the first one lakh eligible applicants and requires scrapping a Delhi-registered BS-IV or older car. This is conditional scrappage support, not a universal electric-car purchase subsidy.

The policy also specifies Rs 10,000 scrappage support for eligible electric two-wheeler purchases and Rs 25,000 for eligible electric autos, against the corresponding Delhi-registered BS-IV or older vehicle. The new eligible EV must be purchased within six months of the authorised Certificate of Deposit. The incentive belongs to the scrapped vehicle's owner.

The application clock starts with the RC

A purchase-incentive application must be submitted within 30 days of generation of the registration certificate. The policy sets disbursement within 60 days of application, subject to verification and fulfilment of requirements. It is not an unconditional promise that an incomplete or ineligible claim will be paid within that period.

The operating guidelines, dated 2 July, provide for application status and deficiency, approval, rejection and payment updates through the portal and SMS. The Transport Department website links the Delhi EV Subsidy Portal. Buyers should use that official route and retain their booking declaration and registration documents.

There is also an out-of-state transfer restriction. Vehicles receiving a purchase incentive are ineligible for an NOC for transfer or re-registration outside Delhi for three years from the policy notification date, according to the policy's wording. Anyone expecting to relocate should check that condition before relying on the benefit.

For the wider purchase calculation, Dalimss News has explained central PM E-DRIVE support and battery-rental versus upfront EV prices. Those amounts should not automatically be added to Delhi incentives. The exact model, transaction and scheme conditions must support any combined quotation.
