Zomato Rider Dies in Cyber Hub Hit-and-Run

GURUGRAM: A 45-year-old Zomato delivery rider on duty died in a hit-and-run near Cyber Hub on Friday afternoon after an unidentified vehicle struck his motorcycle and fled, police said. More than a day later, officers were still trying to identify the vehicle.

Janak Singh, from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, lived on rent in Kapashera and worked delivery shifts in Gurugram. He was riding from Shankar Chowk toward IFFCO Chowk when the collision occurred in front of Cyber Hub, according to police. The crash is believed to have taken place between about 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm.

FIR at DLF Phase 2; CCTV search on

Around 2 pm, Singh's son Pushpendra received a call from a government hospital saying his father had been admitted injured at the Sector 10 facility. Singh died during treatment, according to the son's complaint. A team from DLF Phase 2 police station reached the hospital. Pushpendra submitted a written complaint seeking action against the unknown driver.

Police registered an FIR on Saturday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281 (rash driving) and Section 106 (causing death by negligence), based on the complaint and the hospital's medico-legal information. Officers said a team is checking CCTV footage from the spot and nearby stretches to trace the vehicle that hit the motorcycle. The autopsy has been completed and the body handed to the family for last rites.

Delivery riders form a large share of two-wheeler traffic on the Cyber Hub to IFFCO Chowk corridor during lunch peaks, when office orders spike. Hit-and-run cases on this stretch often hinge on camera clarity and how quickly a fleeing vehicle exits into DLF or NH corridors. Anyone with dashcam or phone video from Friday afternoon near Cyber Hub has been asked to share it with DLF Phase 2 police.

The driver and vehicle remain unidentified. Allegations in the FIR will be tested as evidence comes in. Commuters on the Shankar Chowk to IFFCO Chowk route should expect heightened police presence while the CCTV review continues. Families of gig workers have also pressed platforms and civic agencies for clearer SOS protocols when a rider is taken to a government hospital without an immediate next-of-kin contact.

Platform companies typically issue internal safety notes after rider fatalities, but those notes rarely change how fast a fleeing car can vanish on the Cyber Hub loop. DLF Phase 2 police have asked building security teams facing the crash stretch to preserve Friday afternoon recordings for longer than the usual overwrite cycle. Until the vehicle is identified, the FIR stands against an unknown accused.
