Congress Backs Shankaracharya After Magh Mela Row, BJP Govt Targeted

Congress Pradesh President Ajay Rai and National General Secretary Avinash Pandey met Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand at Vidya Math in Varanasi on Friday and sought his blessings.
During the meeting, Ajay Rai discussed the recent controversy related to the Magh Mela and expressed concern over the alleged mistreatment of the Shankaracharya. He said that Kashi is not just a city but a center of spiritual and cultural traditions, and any disrespect to saints hurts the country’s heritage.
Rai accused the BJP government of insulting Sanatan traditions and said that such actions would not be forgiven by the people. He claimed that the Modi-Yogi government is against religious leaders and spiritual values.
Avinash Pandey also condemned the incident and said that disrespecting saints is against democratic and constitutional values. He added that Congress stands firmly with Swami Avimukteshwaranand and will continue to raise its voice for the protection of religious freedom and dignity.
Congress leaders stated that the party will strongly oppose any attempt to suppress religious voices and will keep fighting to safeguard India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
