BJP Holds ‘Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra’ in Varanasi, Opposition Leaders Targeted Over Women’s Reservation

Varanasi (Kashi): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday organized a massive “Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra” in Varanasi to protest what it described as the opposition’s “negative and misleading stance” on the issue of women’s reservation.
The march witnessed significant participation from BJP’s Mahila Morcha members and local women workers, who took to the streets raising slogans in support of the Central Government and demanding swift implementation of women’s reservation.
During the demonstration, party workers also burned effigies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing them of politicizing a sensitive and long-pending issue concerning women’s empowerment.
BJP leaders present at the rally alleged that while the government has shown commitment toward ensuring greater political representation for women, opposition parties are attempting to create confusion and delay progress for political gains. They further stated that the Women’s Reservation Bill reflects the government’s intent to empower women across the country, including in legislative bodies.
Participants in the padyatra carried placards and banners highlighting the importance of women’s participation in governance and praised recent policy initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s rights and opportunities.
The event comes amid ongoing political debates across the country regarding the timeline and implementation of women’s reservation in Parliament and state assemblies. While the ruling party has positioned itself as a strong advocate of the bill, opposition parties have raised questions over its execution and intent.
The padyatra in Varanasi underscores how the issue has become a major political talking point, especially with increased mobilization of women voters and grassroots-level campaigns ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
