Varanasi, June 21, 2026: Banaras Hindu University is set to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga with a major gathering at Malaviya Bhavan today, with more than 1,000 participants expected to take part.

Event Planned at Malaviya Bhavan

According to BHU's official social media updates and reports, the university's main Yoga Day programme is scheduled at Malaviya Bhavan. The programme is expected to be held in the morning from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the lawns around Malaviya Bhavan and inside the main auditorium.

Because the local time is still before the scheduled morning event, this report is being written as a preview. A follow-up update can be published later if the university releases final participation details and photographs.

Over 1,000 Participants Expected

Reports said the event is expected to draw over 1,000 participants, making it one of the largest Yoga Day gatherings organised by BHU. Participants are expected to include students, faculty members, staff, yoga course students, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers.

The programme is part of the national observance of International Yoga Day, which is held every year on June 21. BHU has a long association with yoga education and community wellness activities through its academic and campus ecosystem.

Campus Health Message

Yoga Day events on university campuses are more than ceremonial gatherings. They also remind students and employees about physical fitness, breathing discipline, mental balance and preventive health.

For a large residential university like BHU, such events can encourage healthier habits among students who often deal with academic pressure, long study hours and irregular routines.

The presence of NCC and NSS volunteers, if participation follows the expected plan, will also give the programme a community-service character. It can help carry the message of daily wellness beyond one campus event and into hostels, departments and neighbourhood outreach activities.

Why It Matters

Varanasi holds a special place in India's spiritual and wellness traditions. A large Yoga Day event at BHU links that heritage with a modern university setting.

If the event sees the expected participation, it will reinforce BHU's role as a key institution in promoting yoga, health awareness and community participation in the city.

Dalimss News will be able to update the report in past tense later if BHU releases final photographs, participation numbers or official remarks after the morning programme concludes.
