BHU Schedules 106th Convocation for December 12

VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University has fixed December 12 for its 106th convocation, giving students from the 2025–26 academic session a firm date for the university’s biggest annual ceremony.

The main programme will be held at Swatantrata Bhawan, the campus venue that traditionally hosts BHU’s large academic and institutional gatherings. Successful students from undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD programmes will be awarded degrees, while meritorious students from different faculties and institutes will receive gold medals.

BHU has formed 11 sub-committees to manage the ceremony. Professor G. P. Singh, Additional Controller of Examinations-II, has been appointed coordinator for the convocation arrangements. The committees will divide responsibilities across the many moving parts of the event, from the central ceremony and academic procession to student coordination and the distribution schedule.

The convocation will not end with the main function at Swatantrata Bhawan. Faculties and institutes will organise their own degree-distribution events after the central programme, allowing graduates to collect degrees and medals through their respective academic units. This two-stage structure is important at a university of BHU’s scale, where a single hall cannot accommodate every graduating student and family member at once.

For students, the announcement starts a long preparation window. Final eligibility lists, medal records and faculty-wise instructions will need to be checked in the months ahead. Graduates who have moved outside Varanasi will also be able to plan travel and accommodation early instead of waiting for a last-minute notice.

The December date places the convocation at the close of the calendar year, but the groundwork begins now. Examination records have to be reconciled, names and programme details verified, and the ceremonial and faculty-level schedules aligned. Even a minor spelling error on a degree can become a lasting administrative problem, so students should monitor official university notices and promptly report discrepancies through the prescribed channel.

The ceremony carries a particular emotional weight at BHU. Swatantrata Bhawan brings together research scholars completing years of work, first-generation graduates, medal winners and families who have travelled from across India. The photographs and robes are the visible part; behind them sits a large exercise in academic verification.

Further details, including eligible batches, registration procedure, entry arrangements and the faculty-wise distribution plan, are expected through university notifications closer to the date. Students should rely on those notices rather than informal messages circulating in class groups.

With the date now locked, BHU has roughly four and a half months to turn an academic milestone into a well-run campus event. For the graduating class, December 12 is no longer a vague point on the university calendar. It is the day their work will formally be recognised.
