NEW DELHI: Benelli's India-market TRK 502 X specification page lists a 110/80 R19 front tyre and a 150/70 R17 rear tyre. The pair needs to be read as separate front and rear specifications. For an owner checking replacement paperwork, the complete marking matters more than a description such as adventure tyre or a product photograph.
| Specification | Front | Rear |
|---|---|---|
| Listed tyre size | 110/80 R19 | 150/70 R17 |
| Nominal width | 110 mm | 150 mm |
| Aspect-ratio number | 80 | 70 |
| Construction marking | R, radial | R, radial |
| Wheel bead-seat diameter | 19 inches | 17 inches |
Read the sequence in the right order
Michelin's official motorcycle guide explains the sequence: width in millimetres, aspect ratio, construction and wheel bead-seat diameter in inches. Applied to the Benelli specifications, this shows why the final number is not the tyre's width and why the front and rear codes should never be swapped on a workshop order.
The aspect ratio describes sidewall height as a proportion of width. It is not a standalone height measurement in millimetres. Keep the code intact when asking a workshop to identify an approved replacement. Reading only the opening number discards information that the rest of the specification carries.
Michelin also explains that load and speed ratings are separate markings. Benelli's abbreviated size rows are therefore a starting point for identification, rather than a complete replacement authorisation. Ask the workshop to confirm the full required marking against the manual for your motorcycle, including its year and market specification.
Make sure the document is for the X
The TRK 502X is the spoked-wheel adventure member of the family. Benelli's original Indian launch material distinguished it from the road-oriented TRK 502's alloy-wheel arrangement. A quotation headed only TRK 502 deserves a second look before the workshop orders the tyres.
This distinction has a practical consequence for an Indian owner planning maintenance before a tour. Send the complete model designation and clear sidewall photographs when seeking a quote. Ask the workshop to repeat the front and rear specifications back in writing, so an omitted suffix does not travel through the ordering process.
The model page lists a 500 cc twin-cylinder engine, six-speed gearbox and chain final drive. Those shared family descriptions are less useful for identifying a tyre than the precise wheel and tyre rows. Matching an engine capacity or a familiar fairing shape does not establish that a listing belongs to the same wheel configuration.
Check the sidewall against the paperwork
Before a replacement appointment, photograph the markings on each wheel's tyre separately and label the images front and rear. Compare them with the motorcycle's manual. If the bike has previously had a different tyre fitted, treat that mismatch as a question for the authorised workshop rather than copying the existing fitment without checking.
Ask for the proposed tyre's complete designation on the estimate. If the description changes when the order is placed, resolve that before fitting. A verbal assurance that a tyre suits adventure motorcycles does not answer the model-specific question. Keep the final invoice with the maintenance history so the fitment can be identified later.
A size code also does not settle every wheel question. Request confirmation of the approved tyre and rim arrangement for your exact motorcycle, rather than assuming a feature from a newer promotional image applies to an older machine. This guide does not infer tubeless capability from the presence of spokes or from the size code.
Keep pressure and size instructions separate
Use the applicable owner's manual for inflation instructions. Neither the tyre width nor the wheel diameter is a pressure setting, and a larger rear size does not supply a pressure formula. If the relevant manual is missing, ask the authorised service centre to identify it before relying on a figure from another market's handbook.
