Ashok Tiwari Warns of FIR for Unauthorized Road Digging in Varanasi

Strict action has been announced in Varanasi against unauthorized road digging, with Mayor Ashok Tiwari making it clear that any department violating the rule will face an FIR.
Speaking during the municipal budget meeting for the financial year 2026–27, the mayor stated that no department, including PWD, gas pipeline agencies, electricity, or cable operators, can carry out road excavation without prior approval from the municipal corporation. Any unauthorized work will result in immediate legal action.
The move comes after repeated complaints of haphazard digging across the city, which has damaged roads and disrupted public convenience. Authorities emphasized that such unplanned work affects both the city's infrastructure and its appearance, prompting stricter enforcement.
The mayor also took a strong stand against corruption within the civic body, warning that even minor complaints of commission-taking would lead to strict disciplinary action against officials and employees involved.
During the meeting, a budget of ₹2575.44 crore was approved for the upcoming financial year. This includes ₹2262.42 crore for the municipal corporation and ₹313.02 crore for the Jal Kal department. Key focus areas include sanitation improvements, expansion of water supply systems, sewer network strengthening, and infrastructure development.
