Anganwadi Workers Announce Big Protest in Lucknow on 8 March

Anganwadi workers across the state have announced a major protest to press for an increase in honorarium and a reduction in excessive workload.

The workers allege that despite being the backbone of grassroots welfare delivery, their salaries remain disproportionately low compared to the responsibilities assigned to them.

According to representatives of the Anganwadi unions, workers are burdened with multiple duties beyond their core responsibilities, including data entry, surveys, election-related work, and administrative tasks.

They argue that this growing workload has not been matched with fair compensation or adequate support from the government.

The unions have warned that if their long-pending demands are not addressed, Anganwadi workers from across the state will gather in Lucknow on 8 March to register their protest. They have described the proposed demonstration as a decisive step to draw the government’s attention to issues affecting their livelihoods and working conditions.

The workers maintain that their demands are not new and have been raised repeatedly in the past, but assurances have failed to translate into concrete action. They have urged the government to initiate dialogue and take immediate steps to improve salaries and rationalise work responsibilities.
