Amaravati Ab Andhra Pradesh Ki Permanent Capital Ghoshit

Andhra Pradesh — In a major political and administrative decision, Amaravati has officially been declared the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh after the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The legislation was passed by both houses of Parliament during the Budget session and later received President Droupadi Murmu’s assent, making it a law. This move grants statutory and legal status to Amaravati as the state’s capital.
The amendment modifies the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, clearly stating that Amaravati will be the capital city of the state. The law also specifies that the decision will be effective retrospectively from June 2, 2024, when the 10-year period of Hyderabad serving as the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana ended.
The decision brings an end to years of uncertainty and political debate over the state’s capital, especially after previous proposals suggested a three-capital model with Visakhapatnam, Amaravati, and Kurnool sharing administrative roles.
Supporters of the move say the declaration will boost infrastructure development, attract investment, and accelerate the construction of government buildings and institutions in Amaravati.
However, the issue has also seen political debate, with some opposition leaders raising concerns about funding and implementation while supporting clarity on the capital status.
