Ajay Rai Attacks Modi–Yogi Govt in Varanasi, Calls It Anti-Sanatan.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai launched a sharp political attack on the Modi–Yogi government during a program held in Varanasi, accusing the ruling dispensation of being anti-Sanatan and insensitive towards religious traditions.
In support of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, Congress workers led by Ajay Rai performed a ceremonial cow worship at a gaushala near the historic Ishwargangi pond. The party took a pledge to protect cows and uphold Sanatan values.
Speaking to the media after the ritual, Ajay Rai said the Congress party stands firmly with Gau Mata, saints, Sanatan traditions, and cultural heritage protected by Lokmata Ahilyabai. He alleged that the insult of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand and repeated attacks on Sanatan faith prove that the Modi and Yogi governments are anti-Sanatan.
He termed it shameful that a revered religious leader like Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand, who has dedicated his life to spreading knowledge and spiritual values, is being forced to prove his identity. Rai said it reflects poorly on the government’s attitude towards saints and religious institutions.
Targeting the BJP further, Ajay Rai alleged that police action against young priests and elderly saints is condemnable. He claimed that despite projecting itself as a protector of cows, Uttar Pradesh has become the largest exporter of beef, calling it a clear contradiction between the government’s words and actions.
Rai also raised concerns over the beautification of Manikarnika Ghat, stating that its original spiritual essence has been damaged in the name of development. He described the ghat as a global center of Sanatan faith and a sacred gateway to salvation.
Questioning the state government, he demanded clarity on claims related to an idol-linked video allegedly being AI-generated. He said the government must present concrete evidence and disclose the whereabouts of the idol, as ministers and officials themselves had earlier admitted damage to it.
