₹944 Crore Jaunpur Four-Lane Bypass Approved to Boost Connectivity with Varanasi

Jaunpur/Varanasi: Eastern Uttar Pradesh is set for a major infrastructure upgrade after approval of a ₹944 crore four-lane bypass in Jaunpur aimed at easing city congestion and improving regional connectivity. The 12.205-km corridor will begin near Basaratpur on the Varanasi–Lucknow National Highway and extend to Purvanchal University in Siddiqpur.
The bypass will directly connect NH-731 with NH-135A, strengthening road links between Jaunpur, Varanasi and Azamgarh. The project includes a 200-metre bridge over the Gomti River, two major and three minor underpasses for pedestrians and local movement, 8.76 km of service roads, and 7.2 km of slip roads. Flyovers and a major interchange are also planned to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.
Officials say the project is expected to significantly reduce travel time by diverting heavy vehicles away from city roads, improving safety and easing daily congestion. Beyond traffic relief, the bypass is projected to stimulate economic activity by enhancing trade routes and logistics connectivity across Purvanchal.
Construction and future roadside commercial development are also expected to generate employment, positioning the corridor as a long-term growth engine for the region.
