Varanasi: Police have arrested a 19-year-old man after a video showing him cutting birthday cake with a sword at a government primary school went viral on social media platform X.
The accused has been identified as Preetam Patel, a resident of Gram Pratappur (Kardhana) under Mirzamurad police station limits in Varanasi. According to police, he was taken into custody on June 20 during a checking drive under Operation Chakravyuh.
The case has drawn attention because the alleged weapon display took place inside school premises. Police have treated the matter as a legal issue involving alleged public display and possession of a weapon, not merely as a birthday celebration video.

According to police, the incident took place on June 12, 2026, inside the premises of the primary school in Pratappur village during a birthday celebration. A group of boys, including the accused, allegedly used a sword to cut the cake and for demonstration or showing off.

Police action followed after the clip was taken up for verification. The available details do not add any political angle or school authority statement, and the report is limited to the alleged video, recovery, arrest and FIR.
