Cantt Station Ticket Checks Lead to Action Against 103 Travellers

VARANASI: Railway staff took action against 103 people during a ticket-checking drive at Cantt station on Saturday, September 12. The checks covered passengers travelling without tickets as well as other ticketing irregularities, and ₹94,905 was collected.
Chief ticket inspector in-charge Janardan Singh and station chief ticket inspector S. K. Pandey were among the staff involved. Ticket-checking personnel carried out the exercise with Railway Protection Force support.
The available account does not break the 103 cases down by violation. It would therefore be inaccurate to describe every person in the total as someone who had bought no ticket at all. The amount collected is also an aggregate, not a standard penalty charged equally to each traveller.
For passengers using Cantt, the practical point is to check that the document held actually covers the journey being made. Buying something through a railway booking service is not enough if the ticket type or journey particulars do not match the intended travel.
A platform ticket is not a journey ticket
Indian Railways distinguishes a platform ticket from a ticket authorising a journey. The former provides access to a platform under the applicable conditions; it is not a substitute for a ticket to travel on a train.
The distinction is particularly useful for a person accompanying a relative. Entering the station to see someone off and boarding to travel are different activities, with different ticket requirements. A traveller should resolve any uncertainty with authorised railway staff before departure.
Check the ticket, not only the payment
A payment message and a successfully issued ticket are not necessarily the same record. Before setting out, passengers should check the booking outcome and the journey details shown on the ticket, rather than relying only on a debit notification from their bank.
Railway mobile-ticket guidance also distinguishes paperless tickets from bookings that require a printed ticket. Where a paperless ticket is used, the passenger must be able to present it through the authorised ticket display. Where printing is required, a booking reference alone does not fulfil that requirement.
The current instructions of the service used should be checked at booking time, since ticketing arrangements and available options can change. This report does not announce a new app requirement, booking restriction or fare at Cantt station.
Keeping the relevant ticket accessible makes a check easier to complete. Anyone asked to pay an additional amount should obtain the appropriate railway receipt and use official channels for questions about the recorded charge.
Saturday’s enforcement total describes one completed drive. No further checking timetable or station-specific change in passenger rules was announced alongside it. Travellers should continue to verify their own ticket’s validity before boarding, irrespective of whether a special campaign is under way.
