NEW DELHI: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, the first-generation camera glasses from Meta and Ray-Ban, remain on sale in India, and the price depends on where you look. Meta's India store lists the Wayfarer (Gen 1) with shiny black frames and clear lenses at Rs 22,400, and Amazon.in shows a matte black pair with polarised gradient graphite lenses at Rs 24,075. Both prices are as of 4 October 2026, 12:16 pm IST.

The Amazon.in listing, which carries model number 899-00599-01, shows Rs 24,075 as a 25 per cent reduction from an M.R.P. of Rs 32,100. The page says the pair is in stock, sold by Clicktech Retail Private Ltd and shipped from Amazon Fulfillment, with delivery by 6 October for the location we checked. It also lists No Cost EMI, with monthly instalments starting at Rs 846.

What Gen 1 costs on the official pages

Meta's own store page for the shiny black, clear-lens Wayfarer shows Rs 22,400. A sister page for the same frame with green lenses also shows Rs 22,400, along with a no-cost EMI of Rs 1,866.66 a month. Meta's store page for the matt black Wayfarer with clear-to-graphite-green Transitions lenses is priced higher, at Rs 26,800.

That spread matters when you compare the two retailers. The Amazon pair has polarised graphite lenses and the Meta pair has clear ones, so Rs 24,075 and Rs 22,400 are not a like-for-like contest. Pick the frame and lens first, then compare the price for that exact combination.

Meta's pages also carry a small note on Gen 1 products that reads "For newer styles and tech: Shop Gen 2". In other words, the company itself now points shoppers who want the latest hardware to a newer generation.

How Gen 1 differs from Gen 3

Our report on the India launch of Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, which starts at Rs 44,300, sets out what the newest glasses offer. On Meta's own store, the gap between that starting price and the Rs 22,400 Gen 1 is Rs 21,900. Against the Amazon price of Rs 24,075 it is Rs 20,225.

For that money, Gen 3 brings a battery rated at up to nine hours, a six-microphone array, 3K Ultra HD video, a dynamic photos mode and an action button for Meta AI, according to Meta's announcement. Those are the company's figures, not test results. The Gen 1 listings we checked do not quote a battery life or a video resolution, so look at the spec sheet before you order.

What Gen 1 does list is still a full feature set. Amazon's page describes a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, a five-microphone system, open-ear speakers for music and calls, and Meta AI that can answer questions about your surroundings when it is switched on. It also lists live translation between French, Italian, Spanish and English, which works without wifi. Hindi is not on that list.

One more difference is range. Gen 3 comes in 27 colour and lens combinations across Aviator, Wayfarer and a new cat-eye frame called Zena. Check how many frames and lens options a seller actually has for Gen 1 before you set your heart on one.

Who should buy it, and when

Gen 1 suits a first-time buyer who mainly wants hands-free photos, calls and music, and who is happy to recharge the glasses regularly. It also suits anyone who wants to try the idea before paying Gen 3 money. If you need the longest battery, the newest camera modes or a non-Wayfarer shape, the extra Rs 20,000 or so for Gen 3 buys something real.

Fit is the practical risk. A camera and battery sit inside the frame, so comfort matters more than on ordinary sunglasses. Meta's store lists frame size and fit options plus a virtual try-on, so use them. If you need prescription lenses, ask the seller which lens options go with your frame before paying.

Timing is the other question. Amazon's Great Indian Festival opens to all customers on 8 October, and Flipkart's Big Billion Days follows on 9 October, as laid out in our roundup of festive sale dates, card offers and fine print. We cannot see any sale price on these glasses today, and nothing on the official pages says Gen 1 will be cheaper during the festival.

If you are not in a hurry, check the Amazon.in page and Meta's store again from 8 October. Compare the same frame and lens, add up any card offer and the EMI terms, and look at the delivery date. Whatever the price does, the figures in this report are the ones visible as of 4 October 2026, 12:16 pm IST.
