Three engines, three price bands

The 1197 cc petrol covers the cheaper half of the range, from Rs 6,89,900 to Rs 8,64,500. Nexa lists claimed fuel efficiency of 21.79 km/l for the manual and 22.89 km/l for the AGS. The S-CNG versions, with a claimed 28.51 km/kg, cost Rs 1,04,000 more than the Sigma petrol and Rs 99,000 more than the Delta petrol.

The 998 cc turbo petrol is the performance option. Nexa's specification table rates it at 73.6 kW, or 100.06 PS, at 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. It starts with the Delta Plus DiTC at Rs 8,96,900, which is Rs 82,400 more than the 1.2 Delta Plus manual. Claimed efficiency is 21.5 km/l for the manual and 20.01 km/l for the automatic.

The automatic choice

There are two kinds of automatic. The AGS on the 1.2 petrol costs Rs 50,000 over the Delta manual and Rs 50,000 over the Delta Plus manual. The turbo's six-speed automatic, listed as 6AT in the specification table, costs Rs 1,28,000 more than the Zeta manual and Rs 1,28,000 more than the Alpha manual. Buyers who mainly drive in traffic and want the lowest-cost two-pedal Fronx should look at the Delta AGS at Rs 8,24,900.

Features by trim

Nexa's variant cards list six airbags on every version, along with the 17.78 cm SmartPlay Pro touchscreen. The lower trims use halogen projector or LED multi-reflector headlamps, according to the cards. The specification section also lists a head-up display and electronic stability programme with hill hold control, though the page does not say which trims get every item, so check the brochure for the exact split.

How the Fronx compares

The Fronx sits between Maruti's hatchbacks and its larger SUVs. Its Sigma price is Rs 91,000 above the Baleno Sigma at Rs 5,98,900, which also uses a 1197 cc petrol engine. The extra money buys the Fronx's raised crossover body and, higher up the range, the turbo option the Baleno does not offer. Outside Maruti, the Fronx's price band overlaps with the Hyundai Venue, which starts at Rs 7,99,900 in our Venue price list, and with the Mahindra XUV 3XO, covered in our XUV 3XO price report.

For buyers who want the Fronx's crossover styling at hatchback money, the Sigma and Delta are the value picks. Those who drive long highway distances may find the turbo worth the extra for its higher torque, while CNG makes most sense for heavy daily city use.

One more point for families: every Fronx version carries six airbags on Nexa's cards, so the entry Sigma does not cut back on the airbag count to reach its price.

On-road price

On-road prices will be higher than the figures here because registration, road tax and insurance are added and vary by state. Ask the Nexa dealer for an itemised quote and a written delivery estimate. The full list and brochure are on Nexa's official Fronx price page.
