Gurugram Logs 71 Percent Excess Rain in Weekly IMD Spell

GURUGRAM: The city received 55 mm of rain between 4 and 10 September, 71 percent more than its normal weekly rainfall of 32.2 mm, according to the India Meteorological Department's weekly weather report.

Seasonally, Gurugram has stayed marginally above normal. Between 1 June and 10 September it recorded 467.4 mm against a normal of 452.2 mm, a surplus of 3 percent. That local surplus sits against a 45 percent rainfall deficit across Haryana for the same week, IMD data show. The state received 15.5 mm against a normal of 28.2 mm from 4 to 10 September. Several districts posted large deficits, including Sirsa (100 percent below normal for the week), Jind (97 percent), Hisar (99 percent), Charkhi Dadri (96 percent) and Bhiwani (95 percent).

For the full monsoon stretch from 1 June to 10 September, Haryana remained deficient at 298.7 mm against a normal of 392.8 mm, a shortfall of 24 percent. Gurugram was among districts that bucked the statewide trend, along with Nuh and Palwal.

IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places in the city on 11, 12 and 13 September, with the district again included in the isolated rainfall outlook for 14 and 15 September. The weather office has not issued any weather warning for the district in the immediate forecast period. For the state, it has warned of the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places on 14 and 15 September.

The weekly report also recorded thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the first five days of the week, with heavy rainfall at isolated places from 4 to 7 September. On 10 September, the past-24-hour district rainfall map showed no rainfall recorded in Gurugram.

The numbers matter for civic planning after the late-August deluge that later prompted the Haryana Human Rights Commission to order a drainage audit. A weekly surplus of this size keeps storm-water networks under pressure even when a single day turns dry, while the statewide deficit underlines how uneven the current monsoon pattern remains across Haryana. Gurugram's 3 percent seasonal surplus is modest beside the 71 percent weekly spike, but both figures place the district on the wetter side of a state still short of normal monsoon totals.

With isolated rain still in the outlook through 15 September, civic crews continue to watch the same waterlogging corridors named after the late-August spell. IMD's state heavy-rain watch for 14 and 15 September does not currently include a district-level warning for Gurugram.
