GURUGRAM: Vyapar Kendra and Galleria roads will retain their existing one way traffic arrangement until construction of the Millennium City Centre underpass begins, following a decision at the District Coordination Committee meeting on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The decision, published by GMDA on November 6, gives residents and market visitors a new official position after the traffic plan drew objections, as reported earlier on dalimss.news in its report on the Sector 43 resident protest.

The immediate instruction concerns both recently redeveloped corridors. GMDA's release says the existing movement will continue as before, with wrong side driving and other violations of the one way arrangement attracting challans. It does not announce a date for changing either road to two way movement.

What commuters should follow now

The official traffic release records discussions between the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and the Traffic Police Department. Haryana government's principal adviser on urban development, DS Dhesi, directed that the current arrangement remain in force until the underpass work starts.

GMDA and traffic police have also been instructed to install adequate signs and display public notices explaining the prevailing arrangement. For people approaching the markets, those instructions matter alongside enforcement: the agencies have been asked to make the permitted circulation clear to drivers. The release does not contain a street by street map, name a new entry or exit, or specify a separate implementation hour in IST.

  • Decision taken: November 5, 2026; official web publication: November 6.
  • Roads covered: Vyapar Kendra and Galleria.
  • Current arrangement: existing one way movement continues.
  • Enforcement: challans for violations, including wrong side driving.
  • Next planning stage: joint traffic circulation plan when underpass construction begins.

The underpass will require a separate circulation plan

GMDA chief executive officer PC Meena told the committee that the authority would undertake underpass construction at Millennium City Centre and that the work would require some traffic diversions and road closures. The release identifies that future construction as the point at which the traffic agencies must reconsider circulation around these roads.

Dhesi directed GMDA and the Traffic Police Department to work together on an appropriate plan once the underpass work begins. The stated aim is to maintain movement while reducing inconvenience to residents and commuters. That is a direction to prepare a plan at the relevant stage. The release provides neither a final diversion route nor a confirmed start date for barricading or excavation.

Residents planning journeys should therefore distinguish the instruction that applies now from the arrangements that will accompany construction. The present notice confirms continued one way movement. The future closures and diversions still require details from the responsible agencies. No completion date for the underpass, closure duration or alternative market access route is supplied in this announcement.

Road repairs and dust controls were also reviewed

The meeting was the fourteenth District Coordination Committee session and took place at the Mini Secretariat conference hall in Gurugram. The separate enforcement release lists traffic ACP Inderjeet, MCG chief engineer Vijay Dhaka and senior officials from NHAI among those attending, alongside officers from GMDA and the district administration. Road management therefore formed part of an interdepartmental review.

A separate official release from the same November 5 committee meeting sets out the wider conditions affecting road work. It says GMDA will undertake road repairs after restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan are lifted, while footpath improvement and beautification works are continuing. Officials were told to ensure dust mitigation during those works.

The committee also reviewed mechanical sweeping. Meena informed it that GMDA would hire five mechanised sweeping machines for major roads under its jurisdiction and initiate the tendering process shortly. MCG was asked to share the operating and cleaning schedules of its machines with GMDA so the two bodies could coordinate deployment and avoid overlapping resources.

For oversight, Dhesi asked the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram to designate officers at Joint Commissioner level to monitor sweeping. These are operational directions recorded by the committee, rather than a claim that the five additional machines are already on the roads. The release gives no tender award date or deployment schedule for them.

The road work discussion sits alongside earlier local coverage of pothole repair instructions, three approved junction projects and pedestrian crossing reviews. Those reports provide background to the city's road programme; the new instruction for Vyapar Kendra and Galleria is the retention of one way traffic pending the underpass construction stage.
