Court Remands Golf Course Road Rage Duo

GURUGRAM: A local court on Friday sent Kalyan Singh Bainsla, about 33, and his cousin Lovneesh, about 32, to 14 days of judicial custody in the Golf Course Road road-rage case in which a woman motorcyclist was allegedly chased and knocked down near the Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station.

The two men were produced after their two-day police custody ended. Defence counsel Lalit Bindal said police informed the court that custodial interrogation was complete, after which the court ordered judicial remand. The next hearing has been fixed for October 1.

Police have said Bainsla was driving a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz when it struck Shivani Chauhan's motorcycle on Sunday, September 13, after an alleged chase of nearly two kilometres along Golf Course Road. Chauhan has told investigators that two more men were inside the car. Bainsla and Lovneesh identified them as Anup Kumar Awasthi and Shrinath Vishwakarma. Officers said teams are still trying to trace the pair.

What the court and police recorded

According to police reconstructions shared earlier this week, the first confrontation occurred near the Sector 53 Metro area before the Ciaz allegedly followed the Aprilia toward the Rapid Metro station. Bike-camera footage that circulated online showed the car repeatedly moving alongside the motorcycle before the impact. Chauhan was thrown to the road but escaped serious injury because she was wearing protective gear, police said.

The FIR was first registered at Sector 56 police station under sections relating to rash driving and endangering life. After examining her statement and the video, police added Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions covering stalking, outraging the modesty of a woman and attempt to murder. Bainsla and Lovneesh were arrested near Dausa in Rajasthan after allegedly visiting Pushkar. Investigators have since said the early-morning incident followed a night out at a club on MG Road.

Police are examining whether alcohol was a factor for anyone in the car. That question remains open and has not been framed as a finding. Both accused have denied a deliberate attempt to kill. Allegations in the FIR remain under investigation and subject to trial.

Women riders' groups and traffic planners have pressed for stricter early-morning checks on Golf Course Road, where club traffic often spills onto the arterial after late nights. A five-member special investigation team continues to work CCTV from GMDA and private cameras, vehicle forensics and witness accounts while the court process moves to the October 1 listing.

Commuters on Golf Course Road near Sectors 53 to 56 should expect heightened police presence during morning peaks while remaining accused are traced. Anyone with dashcam or phone video from the stretch between about 7 am and 8 am on September 13 has been asked to share it with Sector 56 police. Judicial custody does not decide guilt. It only keeps the two arrested men in jail custody until the next date while the hunt for the other named occupants continues.
