GMDA Plans Rs 20 Cr Dwarka Sector Roads

GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority is planning road works worth nearly Rs 20 crore to strengthen two key master-road links in new sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, with bids invited for both packages, officials said.

The first project covers the master road in sectors 110A and 111, where the main carriageway will be strengthened and the existing service road upgraded at an estimated cost of about Rs 9.6 crore. The stretch is expected to be completed within nine months after the agency is finalised. The nearly 820-metre link connects Dwarka Expressway with Chauma Road and serves high-rise condominiums and the HSVP sector in the area.

Residents have sought repairs for years as dumpers, trolleys and daily traffic wore down the pavement. The road was originally built by HSVP and taken over by GMDA in 2018, after which it was kept motorable through patch repairs. Officials said the authority has now decided to strengthen the main carriageway, upgrade the service road, build a central verge and install crash barriers, surface drains and other safety fittings.

Separately, GMDA will construct a 1.8 km service road along the master road in sectors 106 and 109 at an estimated cost of about Rs 9.7 crore, with a one-year completion window. The master road was redeveloped last year, but a service road was not taken up then. Rising residential and commercial traffic has since increased the need for a parallel local route so that short trips do not clog the main carriageway.

A GMDA official said the service road would include street lighting, RCC pipe drainage, footpaths, thermoplastic markings and signage. Once finished, local traffic would have an additional route and smoother access within the two sectors. Bids for both packages have been invited and work will start after contractors are selected.

For households in Diplomatic Enclave, sector condominiums and plots feeding Chauma Road, the 110A-111 package is meant to cut dust from broken patches and reduce the risk of vehicles swerving around potholes near the expressway merge. For sectors 106 and 109, the missing service road has forced local cars onto the master carriageway even for short hops between societies and shops.

Officials cautioned that construction will bring temporary diversions and material stacking along the corridors. Residents have been asked to follow diversion boards and avoid overnight parking on stretches marked for milling or drain cutting. The two packages together mark a shift from repeated patchwork to full strengthening on Dwarka Expressway's western sector feeders, where population growth has outpaced the original road design.

Traffic police and GMDA field staff will coordinate when milling begins so that Dwarka Expressway slip roads do not back up into the main carriageway. Builders in the catchment have been asked not to park ready-mix trucks on the work stretches overnight. Once the service road in sectors 106 and 109 opens, planners expect school buses and society shuttles to shift off the master road during morning peaks.

The combined outlay of nearly Rs 20 crore is modest beside expressway packages, yet it addresses the last-mile gaps that residents feel daily. Officials said similar feeder upgrades may follow in adjoining new sectors if these two contracts finish on schedule and drainage performance holds through the next monsoon.
