VARANASI: The Railway Ministry confirmed on Saturday, October 31, 2026, that the Varanasi to Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper and rail services linking Varanasi City with Rajatalab and Banaras with Prayagraj Rambagh had been flagged off. This is the new development since the proposed sleeper timetable was reported earlier on dalimss.news. Residents using the Banaras and Cantt railway corridors now have an inauguration confirmation, alongside the previously announced overnight schedule.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took part in the flag-off. The ministry's public update also names Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya among those present. Its confirmation covers the three rail connections together, bringing an overnight intercity service and local passenger links into the same announcement.
Passengers should check the boarding station, operating date and reservation entry for their own journey before leaving home. The flag-off confirms the inauguration; the ministry's post does not provide a separate date-by-date booking calendar for all three services. Residents travelling from Manduadih or Cantt should use the station printed on their ticket when arranging their trip to the railway station.
What the ministry has confirmed
The Railway Ministry's October 31 update, published at 7:29 pm IST, says the sleeper and the Varanasi City to Rajatalab and Banaras to Prayagraj Rambagh services were inaugurated. That establishes an outcome beyond the earlier proposal and timetable. The post does not set out intermediate timings or the full operating pattern of the two local connections.
For the sleeper, the ministry's separate October 30 release lists Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, Aligarh and Ghaziabad between Varanasi and New Delhi. This gives travellers a route through four intermediate urban centres. The release describes the service as an overnight option for people travelling for education, work, administrative business, tourism and pilgrimage.
The overnight schedule
The ministry's published service details, issued at 5:33 pm IST on October 30, give the following departure and arrival times. All times are IST. The arrival belongs to the calendar day after departure.
| Direction | Departure | Arrival next morning | Weekly exception |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varanasi to New Delhi | 8:50 pm | 6:10 am | No Friday departure |
| New Delhi to Varanasi | 9:40 pm | 7:10 am | No Saturday departure |
Those published times work out to nine hours and 20 minutes towards New Delhi and nine hours and 30 minutes on the return. The ministry says the service takes 55 minutes less than the Shiv Ganga Express towards Delhi and 35 minutes less towards Varanasi. These comparisons concern the announced timetable, rather than a guarantee about the running time of an individual journey.
The weekly exceptions apply at the departure end. Under the published pattern, a Thursday evening departure from Varanasi reaches Delhi on Friday morning. A Friday evening departure from New Delhi reaches Varanasi on Saturday morning. Travellers should keep that overnight date change in mind when choosing a connecting journey or arranging a pickup.
What residents should do
Use the official National Train Enquiry System to check the train schedule, live station information and train exceptions close to departure. Its passenger information menu also provides access to seat availability, PNR status and ticket booking. For the local links, check the actual service listed for the intended station and date before planning a daily commute around the inauguration announcement.
The ministry's sleeper description includes special berths and toilets for passengers with disabilities, luggage space and a hot-water shower in First AC. Travellers who need an accessible berth should check the accommodation available for their booking. The published description identifies facilities on the service; it does not confirm availability for a particular passenger.
Other recent travel arrangements have their own dates. The earlier report on Banaras platform changes for October 30 and 31 should not be treated as a continuing platform assignment. The November 2 Saharanpur special is a separate service. Check each train individually when comparing travel options.
