DTCP Seals 27 Buildings, Over 240 Rooms in Colony Drive

GURUGRAM: A two-day crackdown by the Department of Town and Country Planning has led to sealing or demolition action against around 27 buildings and more than 240 rooms in Sushant Lok-1 and South City-1, officials said, citing alleged commercial use of stilt parking and residential plots.

District Town Planner (Enforcement) Amit Madholia led action in A Block of Sushant Lok-1, while Assistant Town Planner Divya Dahiya's team worked in B Block of South City-1. The drive targeted alleged illegal hotels, paying guest facilities, guest houses, banquet halls and other commercial uses operating in residential properties in violation of approved building plans and permitted land use, DTCP said.

In Sushant Lok-1, Madholia said demolition began at a house where eight rooms, five toilets and a drawing room had been illegally built in the stilt parking area. Multiple stilt constructions were demolished with earth movers, and some houses with multiple flats created in violation of rules were sealed. A building formed by joining two plots and allegedly run as a 36-room guest house was also sealed. At house No. 379A, a dining hall, kitchen, reception and lounge on the stilt floor were demolished and 52 rooms across four floors allegedly used as a guest house were sealed. Other sealed or demolished premises included house No. 569 (basement banquet and nine two-bedroom units), house No. 519 (stilt reception, kitchen and dining), and a hardware store that had allegedly encroached on a basement.

In South City-1, teams sealed a 20-room hotel, a 32-room PG, a 39-room PG and guest house, and a 27-room guest house, and demolished several illegal stilt constructions, officials said. Tuesday's phase had covered 14 buildings, including a five-floor premises where a boutique, treatment centre and studio rooms were allegedly operating and 23 rooms were sealed. Encroachments on the right of way, including an RWA gate that officials linked to waterlogging complaints, an unauthorised guard room and roadside flower beds, were also removed.

Madholia said the stilt area is only meant for parking and that commercial activity is not allowed in houses. He appealed to owners to remove violations voluntarily as enforcement continues. Officials said the survey of licensed colonies across Gurugram was about 90 percent complete and that the campaign had moved from DLF Phase 3 to Sushant Lok-1 and South City-1. DTCP linked the action to a Punjab and Haryana High Court ruling on jurisdiction with the municipal corporation and to Supreme Court directions for strict action against illegal construction. Some property owners protested at sites where heavy police deployment was present, officials said.
