Court Denies Bail to Thar Driver in Fatal Sohna Chowk Crash

GURUGRAM: A court has denied bail to 23-year-old Rohit Yadav of Sector 13 in connection with the fatal July 17 crash at Sohna Chowk. He remains in judicial custody while the investigation and the criminal proceedings arising from the collision continue.

The crash claimed the life of 19-year-old tattoo artist Divyansh Chadha and left members of his family injured. The loss of a young life and the injuries suffered by the family have made the case a serious road-safety concern, but the legal responsibility for the incident has not yet been finally determined.

Investigators are examining allegations that the Thar was being driven at high speed and that alcohol may have been involved. Both points remain part of the investigation. They should not be presented as conclusively established unless supported by evidence accepted during the legal process.

A bail hearing does not decide whether an accused person is guilty. At that stage, the court considers whether the person should remain in custody while the case proceeds, along with factors placed before it by the prosecution and the defence. The rejection of bail in this matter therefore cannot be treated as a conviction or a final finding on the cause of the crash.

The investigation is expected to focus on the movement of the vehicle, the circumstances immediately before the collision and the material collected by the authorities. Any scientific, medical or electronic evidence will have to be assessed through the proper procedure. The accused retains the right to contest the allegations and present a defence.

The case has also renewed attention on dangerous driving at busy Gurugram junctions. Enforcement against speeding and impaired driving, safe junction design and responsible behaviour by motorists all form part of preventing similar losses. Those wider concerns, however, must remain separate from the court’s eventual determination of this individual case.

The matter will now continue before the competent court. Until the evidence is tested and a judgment is delivered, the allegations must be described with caution and the presumption of innocence must be maintained.
