You can get one CIBIL Score and Report free each year through CIBIL's official free report service. It requires an authenticated request, so a search result promising a free check by PAN without login should not be confused with the official process. A score is a summary of credit history; the full report lets you examine the accounts and enquiries behind it.
CIBIL's free report FAQ explains the access route for existing and new members. RBI's Financial Awareness Messages booklet separately confirms access to one free full credit report, including a credit score, once a calendar year. A calendar year runs from January to December, rather than following the April to March financial year.

How to get the free CIBIL Score and Report
For an existing member, CIBIL's FAQ says to open myCIBIL, go to My Account and select Get your Free Report. For a new member, use the free report route linked from the official FAQ and follow its registration and verification process. This article has checked the public instructions only; it has not entered an account or tested anyone's identity.
The FAQ says a missing free report link may mean the free report has already been requested for that year. For members with an unlimited plan, the free report link is available after that plan expires. A paid subscription is a separate product from the annual free entitlement. Repeated monitoring should not be described as included merely because the annual report is free.
If online authentication fails, CIBIL directs the applicant to its support process to complete verification. The public instructions do not establish that a PAN number alone bypasses this step. Follow the identification requirements displayed by the official service rather than supplying personal details to an unrelated page claiming to perform the same check.
What does a CIBIL score mean?
CIBIL describes its score as a three digit numeric summary of credit history, derived from the information in the Credit Information Report. Its report explanation gives a score range of 300 to 900 and points to the Accounts and Enquiries sections as the source of credit behaviour reflected in the score.
A credit report is not a complete statement of personal wealth. CIBIL says it does not include savings, investments or fixed deposits. The absence of a deposit balance is therefore not evidence that the report is incomplete. The report concerns borrowing and repayment records, alongside identifying and related information.
RBI explains that lenders check credit history and scores along with other factors when considering a loan. A particular score is therefore not a guarantee of sanction. This guide does not assign a universal approval threshold or promise that checking a report will increase the number shown.
What to check if a loan or payment entry is wrong
Review the account section for lender names, ownership, balances and repayment records, and the enquiry section for lender accesses connected with credit applications. CIBIL allows online disputes where report details are inaccurate. Its FAQ says multiple fields can be included in one dispute and that the relevant part of the report is marked under dispute.
The FAQ describes resolution as taking approximately 30 days, subject to the credit institution's response. That is not a promise of an instant correction. RBI's awareness booklet says an unresolved complaint beyond 30 days, or dissatisfaction with the resolution, can be taken to the RBI Ombudsman through the official complaint system.
Related guides explain credit card minimum payments and interest, bank statement narration and failed UPI payment complaint timelines. Those records serve different purposes from a credit report.
