Chowk Police Book Mother-Daughter After Female Constable Alleges Assault at Gyanvapi Gate

Chowk police have registered a case against a Mirzapur mother and daughter after woman constable Chandni alleged she was assaulted while on security duty at Gyanvapi’s western D-gate on Sunday afternoon.

According to the written complaint, Chandni was checking entrants around 12.45 pm when two women arrived at the gate. The check, she said, turned up a mobile phone and other items treated as prohibited inside the secured perimeter. She advised them to deposit the material outside and return for darshan.

The women came back after depositing the items, the complaint continues. Kritika, identified as the daughter, allegedly began arguing over the check. Chandni said she stepped in to calm both visitors and ask them to follow the queue rules. The situation then turned physical, she alleged: the women pulled and broke the strap of her nameplate, tried to run off with her identity card, yanked her hair and beat her when she tried to recover the card. She reported injuries on several parts of her body.

On that tahreer, Chowk police on Monday named Priyanka and Kritika, residents of Bangalipur under Rajgarh police station in Mirzapur district, in a first information report. Chowk Inspector Vijay Kumar Shukla said the FIR had been lodged and that facts were under investigation, with further action to follow as evidence is collected.

Security arrangements around the Gyanvapi complex treat phones and certain other objects as restricted at designated gates. Officers on duty are expected to stop such items before visitors move deeper into the controlled zone. Sunday’s dispute, if the complaint is borne out, began at that screening step rather than deeper inside the campus.

Police have not publicly detailed medical reports or CCTV timelines in the first briefing. Until those pieces are on record, the mother’s and daughter’s side of the story is not fully set out in the available police note. Both women remain accused on the basis of the constable’s written allegation; guilt or innocence will turn on the investigation and any later court process.

For the commissionerate, an alleged assault on a woman officer posted at a high-visibility gate is a force-protection matter as much as a street crime file. Chowk’s probe will need to lock timings, witness accounts and injury documentation before the case moves beyond the FIR stage.

As of Monday evening the station’s position was limited and clear: a duty constable has complained of assault and an attempt to snatch her identity card, and a case stands registered against the two women named in that complaint.

Visitors to the secured perimeter are routinely asked to leave phones and other restricted items at designated points before entry. Sunday’s alleged clash, on the constable’s telling, began when that rule met resistance at the gate rather than deeper inside. Chowk’s investigators will also have to record whether any independent witnesses on the D-gate queue saw the nameplate and identity-card struggle.
