GURUGRAM: BMW India and BMW Motorrad India have opened pre-orders for a set of limited "100 Jahre Nürburgring" editions, built to mark the German racetrack's 100th anniversary in 2027. The collection includes the BMW M5 Touring, the first time this high-performance estate has been offered in India.

The line-up has five cars and one motorcycle: the BMW M2, the all-new M3 Competition xDrive sedan, the M4 Competition xDrive coupe, the M5 Sedan, the M5 Touring, and the M 1000 R hyper naked bike. BMW said on 5 October that pre-orders are open with its authorised dealers from that day.

BMW has not announced prices or the number of units coming to India. The company describes the cars as "produced in extremely limited numbers" and says the M 1000 R will arrive in limited units. Buyers will have to ask dealers for the price at the time of booking.

Why the Nürburgring matters to BMW M

The Nürburgring Nordschleife, in Germany's Eifel mountains, is a 20.8 km circuit with more than 150 corners and steep elevation changes. Racing drivers call it the "Green Hell", a name BMW uses throughout its release. Car makers use it to test handling, braking and high-speed stability before a model goes on sale.

BMW says every BMW M car is tested on the Nordschleife before it reaches the road. The brand also points to its record in the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race, where it has 21 overall wins, the most of any manufacturer.

What sets the edition cars apart

All five cars come in a choice of two finishes. The first is Nürburgring Green, a shade BMW says was developed only for this collection. The second is Sapphire Black metallic with green accents.

Every car carries a "100 Years" logo, "Nürburgring since 1927" wording and an outline of the track. Inside, the black cabins get green and white contrast stitching and edition-specific door sills.

The six-cylinder models, which are the M2, M3 and M4, get an M Alcantara steering wheel with a 12 o'clock marker, M Carbon bucket seats with BMW Individual upholstery and carbon fibre trim. The two M5 models get an M steering wheel with the same design.

Each car also has its own details:

The M2 xDrive gets an M carbon roof, M carbon bucket seats, the edition paint and specific graphics.

The M3 Competition xDrive has Nürburgring graphics, an M carbon roof and green accents on the wheels. BMW also lists M Ignite, which it says improves operation under high loads.

The M4 Competition xDrive gets an M carbon roof, BMW M stripes, edition accents and M Ignite.

The M5 Sedan uses BMW's M HYBRID drive and adds an M carbon roof, Styling M light wheels with green accents and black Nordschleife embroidery.

The M5 Touring also uses the M HYBRID drive. Instead of a carbon roof, it has a steel roof with edition stripes.

The M 1000 R edition

The motorcycle in the collection is the BMW M 1000 R. The edition version gets a painted fuel tank with the Nürburgring outline, an airbox cover in the anniversary design with an individual "one of 100" marking, carbon wheels with Nürburgring Green stripes and an Alcantara-look seat embroidered with "100". The swingarm and rear frame are finished in black.

BMW Motorrad India has not said how many units of the bike will come to India, or when deliveries will begin.

Where it fits in India's luxury market

The edition arrives in a busy season for high-end cars. Porsche recently started deliveries of the Cayenne Electric, which we covered in our report on its Rs 1.77 crore launch, and new luxury brands are preparing to enter the country, as seen in BYD's announcement for its Denza brand.

For collectors, the M5 Touring is the most interesting part of this announcement, since BMW has not sold an M5 estate in India before. Anyone who wants one should confirm with the dealer whether the price quoted is ex-showroom or on-road, the expected delivery month, and whether the edition car can be specified in either finish.

The full details are in the BMW Group India press release.
