BHU Recruitment Probe Intensifies: Central Agencies Expand Investigation Into Alleged Irregularities

Varanasi: The ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment processes at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) between 2022 and 2024 has gained further momentum, with central agencies reportedly expanding the scope of their inquiry.
According to local sources, a female candidate from Varanasi was recently questioned as part of the investigation. While officials have not issued any formal statement regarding the development, sources indicate that investigative teams remain active in the city and are examining multiple aspects of the recruitment process.
The probe focuses on more than 200 appointments made over a three-year period, including non-teaching and nursing positions. The investigation was initiated following complaints alleging violations of recruitment norms and irregularities in the selection process. The matter reportedly reached the Prime Minister’s Office, following which a high-level inquiry was set in motion.
Investigators are also examining alleged financial transactions linked to certain appointments. Complainants have claimed that evidence related to money trails and suspected bribery was submitted to authorities. Recruitment records, candidate selections, and other relevant documents are reportedly under scrutiny as agencies attempt to establish the facts.
The inquiry has extended beyond Uttar Pradesh, with investigative teams reportedly gathering information from multiple states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and others. Several individuals connected to the recruitment process have been questioned over the past few months.
The allegations first surfaced after a complaint was submitted by a candidate who raised concerns about appointments made across various pay levels, claiming that established recruitment procedures were not properly followed and that deserving candidates may have been overlooked.
BHU has not publicly commented on the latest developments. As the investigation continues, officials are expected to determine whether any procedural lapses or irregularities occurred during the recruitment process. Until the inquiry is completed, all allegations remain under investigation and have not been proven in a court of law.
