4,500 Police Personnel Deployed Across Gurugram for Independence Day

GURUGRAM: Around 4,500 police personnel, including traffic staff, have been deployed across Gurugram district for Independence Day, with checks planned at 11 locations and layered security around five main celebration venues. The arrangements will remain in place until programmes conclude on 15 August.

Police identified Sirhaul border, DLF Phase 3, Bakhtawar Chowk, Dundahera and Kaliawas among the major checking points. Hotels, malls, clubs and other crowded premises are also being screened. Residents should expect slower movement where vehicle checks overlap with peak-hour traffic and should keep extra travel time.

Five official venues

The district-level programme will be held at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38. Other official events are scheduled at the New Grain Market in Haileymandi-Pataudi, Government Model Sanskriti Senior Secondary School in Sector 43, the Shaheed and Freedom Fighters Memorial Stadium in Nakhrola-Manesar, and Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sohna.

Security plans cover stages, VIP routes, entry and exit points, parking areas and adjoining buildings. Police said separate entry arrangements will be maintained for invited guests and the general public. Personnel will also be positioned on selected rooftops around venues, while anti-sabotage teams are checking event sites and movement routes.

Screening and emergency response

Visitors will pass through door-frame or hand-held metal detectors. Women police personnel and separate frisking cabins will be available for women attendees. Quick-reaction teams are being placed near stages and other strategic points. Five fire tenders and five ambulances are to remain positioned across the celebration locations.

Traffic teams will manage road cuts, signals, T-points, flyovers and underpasses during official movements. Checkpoint personnel are being equipped with reflective jackets, torches and wireless sets. Additional checks may be added if operational needs change.

Drivers approaching a checkpoint should slow down early, keep documents accessible and avoid changing lanes at the last moment. A steady queue is safer and usually clears faster than vehicles attempting to bypass the marked checking channel.

Plan the trip, not just the route

People attending a function should use the designated gate and parking area, avoid carrying unidentified bags or restricted objects, and follow on-ground directions rather than stopping near a secured approach. Commuters who are not attending should avoid venue roads where practical, particularly around the start and end of programmes.

High visibility is only one part of effective security. Clear signs, courteous screening and rapid communication about diversions can prevent the arrangements themselves from creating confusion. Police have asked residents to report suspicious persons, objects or activity. For everyone else, the simplest contribution is to arrive early, travel light and leave emergency lanes open.
