VDA Seals 35 Coaching Centres in 48 Hours in Varanasi

The Varanasi Development Authority has sealed 35 coaching institutes and libraries across Varanasi and Mughalsarai as part of a rapid safety and building-norm enforcement drive launched after the deadly Lucknow coaching centre fire.
According to VDA, the action was taken against institutions allegedly operating without approved building maps, required permissions, and compliance with prescribed building standards. The drive covered multiple zones, including Shivpur-Sikraul, Sarnath, Sigra-Mahmoorganj, Durgakund-Sankat Mochan, Ramnagar and Mughalsarai.
Officials said several coaching centres and libraries were found running in buildings that did not meet required norms. The sealed premises were handed over to police custody, while notices have also been issued to the concerned owners and operators.
VDA Vice Chairman Purna Borah said public safety cannot be compromised. He directed coaching institutes, libraries and commercial establishments to operate only after following approved building plans, fire safety provisions and permissions from the authority.
The action has created panic among coaching operators in the city, with several centres reportedly shutting their premises after the inspection drive began. Authorities have warned that similar enforcement will continue against institutions found violating building and safety rules.
