Varanasi Pensioners Seek Medical Claims Paper Option

VARANASI: A pensioners’ association has asked for the restoration of a physical application option for medical reimbursement, arguing that a portal-only process is difficult for some retirees to use. The demand was raised at its Varanasi branch meeting on Sunday, September 13.

The Uttar Pradesh Pensioners Kalyan Sanstha met in the pensioners’ room at the treasury complex in Kachahari. District president engineer S. D. Mishra chaired the meeting, which district secretary Avadh Narayan Pandey conducted.

Members said physical applications had been discontinued and referred to a September 9 government order concerning submission through the Janhit Swasthya portal. Their request was to restore the older option. This report records the association’s position; it does not independently establish how every category of pending claim is now being processed.

The branch also announced that a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister would be submitted through the Varanasi district magistrate at noon on September 24. It linked the proposed submission to a wider call by the organisation.

Access to a process is part of the service

The dispute is about the route used to seek reimbursement, not an announcement that the government has approved a new payment. A medical claim still needs to be distinguished from its submission, scrutiny, sanction and eventual settlement.

For a retiree, the practical questions are specific: where an application should go, what documents are required, whether an acknowledgement has been issued and how a query will be communicated. A change of platform does not answer those questions unless the relevant instructions are clear.

The association’s account raises the issue of people who may need help using a digital process. That is different from showing that every applicant faces the same difficulty. No survey of users, rejection rate or average processing time was supplied with the meeting report.

Demands remain demands

Members discussed other pension-related requests, including revision issues, restoration of railway concessions for senior citizens and payment of withheld dearness-relief arrears. None should be read as an approved benefit merely because it appeared on the meeting’s agenda.

Retirees with an active claim should check the instructions applicable to their own case with the responsible office and retain copies of their submission and acknowledgement. This article is not a substitute for an official order, nor should it be used to decide that an existing claim needs to be withdrawn or filed again.

Sunday’s meeting also included an introduction of new members and approval of the previous proceedings. The next scheduled step announced by the branch is the September 24 memorandum; a response from the authorities or a revised procedure would be a separate development.
