Minister and CP Lay Foundation for 10-Storey Varanasi Commissionerate

Uttar Pradesh minister Ravindra Jaiswal and Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal performed the bhumi pujan on Thursday, 27 August 2026, for a 10-storey Commissionerate administrative building of about 1.35 lakh square feet, put at around Rs 64 crore in the official briefing. June had carried a plan announcement. Thursday was the foundation rite.

Present with them were Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order / Headquarters) Shivhari Meena, ADCP (Crime) Alok Priyadarshi, and Deputy Commissioner of Police for Lines, Headquarters and the Varuna zone, Pramod Kumar.

The programme described 10 floors as basement plus ground plus floors 1 to 8. The ground floor is planned for an RTI desk, a public-grievance cell, a passport cell, character verification, a waiting hall and a canteen. The same campus is also to house the offices of the Additional Director General of Police, Zone, and the Inspector General of Police, Range.

Basement parking is listed for about 37 cars. Other planned rooms include a media cell, a training wing, a technology centre, a server room and a control room. An auditorium for about 150 people is placed on the eighth floor.

Commissioner Agrawal said the building was meant to speed coordination and complaint disposal. Minister Jaiswal described it as integrated police administration.

No completion date was announced at the Thursday rite. The cost, floor area and room list are as briefed by the minister and the commissioner that day.

A June announcement had put a Commissionerate headquarters on the public map. Thursday’s bhumi pujan is the first on-site foundation act after that June plan. Treating June’s paper as Thursday’s brick would mix two dates. What changed on 27 August is the rite, the named officers on the ground, and a floor-by-floor programme read out with them.

Public counters on the ground floor — RTI, grievance, passport, character verification, waiting hall, canteen — are the citizen-facing claim. Zone ADG and Range IG offices on the same campus are the command claim. Basement parking for about 37 cars is the vehicle claim. None of those rooms existed as a finished building on Thursday. They exist as a programme spoken at a foundation.

The eighth-floor auditorium of about 150 seats, the media cell, the training and tech rooms, the server room and the control room sit in the same briefing. They are design intentions until the building is up. The 10-floor stack — basement, ground, 1 to 8 — is how the officers counted the tower. Around Rs 64 crore and about 1.35 lakh square feet are the two scale figures they put with it.

The Thursday pitch was one campus, one public ground floor, and faster disposal. That is the official case. It is not a scorecard of how fast complaints move today.
