UP STF Seizes 439 Kg Cannabis, Arrests Alleged Interstate Smuggler in Mirzapur

Varanasi, June 29, 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has arrested an alleged interstate narcotics smuggler in Mirzapur district and seized 439 kg cannabis, according to police-based reports.
The accused has been identified in reports as Amarjeet Yadav alias Pahalwan. The seizure was reported near Pachokhara-Kasopur Tiraha under the Madihan police station area of Mirzapur district.
The cannabis was reportedly being transported from Odisha toward the Prayagraj-Mirzapur region. Officials said the consignment was concealed in a vehicle with empty plastic crates. The reported value was around Rs 1.1 crore, though one Hindi report carried a higher market-value estimate.
STF Acts on Intelligence Input
According to reports, an STF field unit from Prayagraj was working on criminal intelligence in Mirzapur when it received information about a vehicle carrying illegal cannabis from Rayagada in Odisha through Sonbhadra toward Mirzapur.
The local police were informed, and the vehicle was intercepted near the reported location. A search allegedly led to the recovery of sacks of cannabis hidden behind plastic crates.
Accused and Alleged Route
The accused was arrested on the spot, according to the reports. He is alleged to be associated with a network moving cannabis from Odisha and selling it at higher prices in Prayagraj and nearby districts.
Investigators are also reported to be examining the role of other persons named during questioning, including alleged handlers and associates involved in loading or receiving the consignment. These are allegations at this stage and must be treated as part of an ongoing investigation.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
Reports said a case has been registered at Madihan police station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, including Sections 8, 20 and 29.
The local police are expected to carry out further legal proceedings. Investigators are likely to examine mobile phones, vehicle records, financial links and route details to identify any wider supply chain.
Purvanchal Crime Watch
Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Prayagraj and adjoining districts form an important road corridor in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Narcotics cases on such routes often involve multiple jurisdictions, making coordination between STF units and local police important.
Dalimss News is reporting this as an Uttar Pradesh crime story from the wider Varanasi-Purvanchal region. The accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court, and further details should come from official police updates.
