UP College Graduate Gets Agriculture Appointment

VARANASI: UP College's agriculture faculty had reason to celebrate on Tuesday after graduate Pragati Singh received an appointment letter for the post of Agriculture Technical Assistant from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at a programme in Lucknow. Her selection came through the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission examination.

Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and Minister of State Baldev Singh Aulakh were present at the distribution programme. College officials said more than 75 men and women who studied agriculture in different UP College sessions were selected through the same recruitment process, turning one student's moment into a wider placement milestone for the faculty.

Principal Professor Dharmendra Kumar Singh congratulated Pragati and linked the result to student effort, academic quality and a disciplined environment. Agriculture dean Professor Raghvendra Pratap Singh and other teachers also sent their wishes to the selected candidates.

The technical assistant role matters because agriculture policy eventually has to reach a field. Such staff may help carry information between government departments and farmers, support records and scheme implementation, and translate technical recommendations into local practice. The quality of that last-mile work can determine whether a programme exists only on paper.

For students, a large number of selections from one faculty provides a more useful signal than a ceremonial photograph alone. It shows that the curriculum and exam preparation can lead to a defined public-service route. The college should now document the subjects, mentoring and timelines that helped candidates so later batches can learn from them.

The job will also demand skills that no recruitment test fully measures. A technical assistant must listen to cultivators, recognise when a textbook recommendation does not fit local soil or water conditions and explain a scheme without turning it into bureaucratic language. Digital reporting is increasingly part of the role, but field credibility still depends on being present.

Agriculture graduates in eastern Uttar Pradesh work amid fragmented holdings, changing rainfall and pressure on input costs. Their training is most valuable when it connects plant science and economics with those realities. Public employment can give them a stable platform to do that, provided vacancies are filled on time and new appointees receive practical induction.

Pragati Singh's appointment letter marks the beginning, not the completion, of that professional journey. For UP College, the 75-plus selections are an opportunity to build an alumni network that feeds experience back into classrooms. For the new assistants, the next examination will happen in villages, where clear advice and reliable follow-through matter more than a rank list.
