Tamil Nadu Releases NEET UG Rank Lists; Counselling Registration Starts 13 August

Tamil Nadu's Directorate of Medical Education and Research Selection Committee released the state's provisional NEET UG 2026 rank lists on Tuesday, 11 August, setting the stage for MBBS and BDS counselling registration from 13 August.

Separate lists have been published for the government quota, management quota and candidates claiming the state's 7.5% preferential reservation for government-school students. Applicants should consult the list relevant to their category rather than treating a position in one PDF as their rank across every pool of seats.

Venkatapathy Velayutham of Villuppuram was reported at the top of the general list with a NEET score of 705. Srinika B of Pudukkottai followed with 700, while Sudar of Virudhunagar had 696. These scores describe the top of the published state list; they do not by themselves establish the closing score for a particular college or category.

Under the 7.5% preferential reservation, 641 seats have been identified this year: 537 in MBBS and 104 in BDS. Of 4,860 applications received under this category, 3,225 were accepted. Dinesh of Nagapattinam ranked first in the government-school list.

The difference between “application received” and “application accepted” deserves attention. Candidates who expected to appear in the 7.5% list but do not find their details should check the committee's eligibility rules and any available grievance instructions promptly. The reservation depends on schooling and documentary conditions in addition to NEET qualification.

The lists are provisional. That word is not decorative: authorities may correct data, resolve category claims or revise status after verification. Students should download the current PDF, record the publication date and continue checking the official selection portal for notices instead of relying on screenshots circulated in messaging groups.

Counselling registration is scheduled to begin on 13 August. Candidates will need to move from checking a rank to completing the next administrative steps—registration, payment where applicable, category documentation and choice submission—within the timetable notified by the state committee.

A high state rank does not guarantee a particular campus because allotment depends on the candidate's quota, category, preference order, available seats and the choices of higher-ranked applicants. Conversely, a student should not abandon counselling solely because a preferred college looks unlikely in the first round; later movement can occur when candidates upgrade, withdraw or join through another quota.

Applicants should verify spelling, NEET roll number, score, category and reservation status in the published material. Any discrepancy should be raised through the official mechanism with supporting documents. Waiting until after choice locking can make a correctable record problem much harder to resolve.

The 7.5% list requires particular care from schools and families. Government-school certificates and the period of study claimed must match the state's rules. Head teachers should respond quickly to legitimate verification requests, but no institution should promise that it can influence rank or allotment.

Students should also be alert to counselling fraud. No caller can lawfully “upgrade” a rank or reserve an MBBS seat outside the notified process. Passwords, one-time passwords and payment information should be entered only on the official portal. Any demand for cash in exchange for a guaranteed government or management seat should be treated as a warning sign.

The release of the lists gives candidates the information needed to plan, but the next two days are for checking rather than celebrating or panicking. Download the correct list, confirm the data, prepare documents and read the counselling notice line by line before registration opens.
