Police ID Suspect, Probe Delay in Road-Rage FIR

GURUGRAM: Police have identified the accused in the Golf Course Road road-rage case as Swayam, a resident of Delhi's Aya Nagar, and opened an internal probe into why the FIR took nearly a month to be registered after a mother and daughter alleged abuse and damage to their car.

The FIR was registered on Tuesday at Sector 56 police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage). Officers said Swayam is currently admitted to a private hospital for dengue treatment. A police team has been posted at the hospital, and he is to be arrested after discharge, police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.

Delay inquiry and what the complaint alleged

ACP (Sadar) Dharambir Singh said a probe has been started into allegations that police delayed registering the FIR. "We have initiated a probe pertaining to the allegations and are checking if there was any delay on the part of the police and action will be taken against those responsible for not registering the FIR in time as there is zero tolerance pertaining to crime against women or any harassment caused to women," he said.

The complainants, Khushboo Verma and her mother Pooja Verma, said the 27 August incident began near AIT Chowk when a black Scorpio allegedly sideswiped their Maruti Swift after a signal spat, then blocked them, abused them, and smashed a headlight with an iron or steel rod before fleeing. Khushboo said she called the police control room the same night. The formal FIR, however, came only after repeated visits and a fresh complaint, with officers indicating ACP-level intervention preceded registration.

Identification of Swayam and the hospital watch mark the first named suspect step in a file that earlier listed an unidentified driver. The separate delay inquiry will decide whether any officer faces departmental action. Arrest still waits on medical discharge. Until then, the case sits between a named accused on a hospital bed and a supervision check on how long the complaint took to become an FIR.

The nearly month-long gap between the 27 August night and the Tuesday FIR is what triggered the ACP-level delay probe. Complainants say they made repeated visits with dashcam evidence before the case was finally written. Naming Swayam and parking a team at his hospital bed converts that delayed FIR into an active arrest watch, while the separate negligence inquiry asks whether any officer failed the zero-tolerance standard on crimes involving women. Both tracks can move at once: one toward remand after dengue discharge, the other toward departmental findings if the delay probe sustains the allegation.
