STF Varanasi and Chandauli Police cannabis seizure

Varanasi/Chandauli, June 29, 2026: STF Varanasi and Chandauli Police reportedly seized more than 500 kg of illegal cannabis and arrested two accused persons in a suspected smuggling case linked to Odisha, according to police-based media reports.

The seized contraband was reported at about 501.3 kg, with an estimated value of around Rs 1.2 crore. The case is under investigation, and the accused should be treated as accused unless guilt is established in court.

Over 500 Kg Cannabis Reportedly Seized

Reports said the seizure was made during a joint operation involving Chandauli Police and the Varanasi unit of the Special Task Force. The teams reportedly acted on information about illegal cannabis being transported through the region.

The consignment was allegedly being moved from Odisha. Eastern Uttar Pradesh has often figured in police reports as a transit belt in narcotics-smuggling cases because of road connectivity with adjoining states and major highway routes.

Two Accused Arrested

Two persons were reportedly arrested during the operation. Police are expected to examine the transport route, source of the consignment, intended destination, vehicle ownership and possible links to a wider network.

Varanasi STF Role in Regional Crackdown

The reported involvement of STF Varanasi makes the case relevant for Varanasi and the wider Purvanchal region. Such operations usually involve intelligence gathering, highway surveillance and coordination between district police and specialised units.

Chandauli's location near major transport corridors makes anti-smuggling checks important for the region. Police have previously reported narcotics seizures involving consignments allegedly brought from other states and moved toward different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Investigation Underway

Investigators are expected to verify whether more people were involved in arranging transport, financing, storage or distribution. The final legal outcome will depend on evidence presented under the relevant provisions of narcotics law.

The seizure adds to recent police action against alleged drug-smuggling networks in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Dalimss News will update this report if police release names, route details, vehicle information or further arrests through an official statement.
