Police Arrest Father in Shreya Upadhyay Murder

Rajatalab police arrested Ramsahay Chaube, 65, on Thursday, 27 August 2026, near Jamua tiraha railway crossing on informer input, Inspector Dayaram’s station said, in the Shreya Upadhyay murder case. The file is crime number 157/2026 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 103(1). His son Vivek Chaube, alias Nikhil, named as the prime accused, was still absconding. Raids were continuing.

The pickup team named by police was Inspector Dayaram, Sub-Inspector Anand Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Ramvilas Yadav, Constable Mantosh Shah, reserve constable Sudhakar and head-constable driver Sunil Kumar Singh.

Police identified Ramsahay as the son of the late Mangla Prasad Chaube, of Niyardih under Cholapur police station. They said they made him a wanted accused after investigation. On the police allegation, he had wanted his son Vivek married to Shreya; her family had refused and fixed another match; and he had threatened that she would live as his daughter-in-law or not live. Those points are police claims. They are not court findings.

Shreya Upadhyay, 22, of Marui village under Rajatalab police station, had been missing since 18 August. Her body was recovered on 20 August at Bachchhav Paschimpura under Rohaniya police station. That recovery is the background of this week’s arrest, not this week’s news. Thursday’s story is the father in custody and the son still wanted.

Crime 157/2026 under BNS 103(1) is the murder section on the Rajatalab book. Inspector Dayaram is the station officer on the arrest. Jamua tiraha railway crossing is where police said they picked Ramsahay on informer input. The named SI pair, the constable, the reserve constable and the head-constable driver are the rest of the team the station put on the record for that pickup.

Niyardih, Cholapur, is the arrested man’s recorded village. Marui, Rajatalab, is the victim’s. Bachchhav Paschimpura, Rohaniya, is where the body was found on 20 August. Three police-station maps sit on one file. Crossing from Cholapur to Rajatalab to Rohaniya is how the case is drawn, not a fresh recovery this Thursday.

Police have not, in Thursday’s arrest briefing, produced Vivek. They said raids on likely hideouts were continuing. Until the prime accused is in hand, the station’s marriage-refusal narrative stays an allegation under probe. Repeating it as proven motive would overstate what Rajatalab has put out.

Shreya is already named in the public police case as an adult murder victim. Other family names that Thursday’s briefing did not release are not added here.

The 18 August missing report and the 20 August recovery at Bachchhav Paschimpura remain the start of the file. They are not re-dated to 27 August because a relative of the wanted man was arrested. The new public marker is Ramsahay Chaube in custody, crime 157/2026, and Vivek Chaube alias Nikhil still to be found.
