State Bank of India's preliminary exam result for its 2026 Probationary Officer recruitment has been on the bank's careers website since 28 August 2026, and every candidate's marks can be checked there as well. If you wrote the prelims on 1 or 2 August and are only now looking it up, this guide explains where to find the result, what the list tells you and where the selection process stands in October.
All the details here come from SBI's own documents: the prelims result list dated 28 August 2026, the marks page for the preliminary examination and the detailed advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09, all linked from the bank's Current Openings page. The old sbi.co.in careers address now opens the same pages on sbi.bank.in.
How to check the prelims result
The result is not a login page. It is an 11-page PDF of roll numbers shortlisted for the main examination, printed in 15 columns. On the Current Openings page, find "Recruitment of Probationary Officers" under advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09 and click "Preliminary Examination Result".
Once the PDF opens, use the search option (Ctrl+F on a computer, or "Find in page" on a phone) and type your 10-digit roll number. If it shows up, you were called to the main exam. If it does not, you were not shortlisted this time.
A note at the end of the list says the result is subject to meeting the eligibility conditions in the advertisement and to the correctness of the details given at registration. Being on the list is a shortlist, not a final clearance.
The list carries 15,802 roll numbers by our count of the PDF. That matches the rule in the advertisement, which said SBI would call about 10 times the number of vacancies in each category to the main exam. The drive has 1,500 posts.
How to see your marks
Marks sit on a separate page titled "Marks Secured by the Candidates in Preliminary Examination", linked in the same box on the careers page. You need your roll number or registration number, your date of birth and the captcha text shown on screen.
The prelims paper carried 100 marks in three timed sections: English Language with 40 questions, and Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability with 30 questions each, at 20 minutes per section. There was no sectional cut-off at this stage. The merit list was drawn on aggregate marks within each category, and a quarter of a question's marks was deducted for every wrong answer, with no penalty for a question left blank.
One point worth knowing if you made it through: prelims marks do not count in the final merit list. SBI uses them only to decide who goes to the main exam.
The main exam, and where things stand now
The result list gave 12 September 2026 as the tentative date of the main exam, and SBI's information booklet for the main exam, issued on 2 September, carries the same date. Call letters for the main exam were linked from the careers page.
The main exam has a three-hour objective paper of 200 marks in four sections: Reasoning and Computer Aptitude (60 marks, 50 minutes), Data Analysis and Interpretation (60 marks, 45 minutes), General Awareness, Economy and Banking Knowledge (60 marks, 45 minutes) and English Language (20 marks, 40 minutes). A 30-mark descriptive test follows straight after, typed in English with no spellcheck. It asks for an email, a situation analysis, and either a report or a precis.
As of the morning of 6 October 2026, SBI's careers page has not posted the main exam result. The advertisement's tentative calendar places it in September or October 2026, so it could come at any point, but the bank has not announced a fixed date. Any date you see elsewhere should be treated with caution until it appears on sbi.bank.in.
What Phase III involves
To move ahead, a main exam candidate has to clear a minimum score in each of the four objective sections and in the descriptive paper, separately. SBI then draws a category-wise merit list on the main exam total and calls up to about three times the vacancies to Phase III, subject to a minimum aggregate score the bank sets.
Phase III has three parts. A psychometric test profiles personality and its findings go to the interview panel; the bank may hold it in proctored mode or at test centres. Then come a group exercise worth 20 marks and a personal interview worth 30. The tentative calendar puts the call letters, the psychometric test, and the group exercise and interview in October or November 2026.
For the final merit list, main exam marks out of 230 are scaled to 75 and Phase III marks out of 50 are scaled to 25. Candidates must qualify in Phase II and Phase III separately. The final result is listed for November or December 2026.
What candidates should keep ready
Hold on to your prelims call letter. The advertisement asked candidates to keep the stamped prelims call letter and the authenticated copy of their ID proof, as later stages ask for them, and to keep about eight copies of the photograph uploaded at registration.
Final year students who applied provisionally should note 30 September 2026. Proof of passing graduation has to be dated on or before that day and must be produced at the interview stage if called. The date of passing is the one on the mark sheet or provisional certificate.
Certificates for age relaxation are checked at the group exercise and interview. OBC candidates need a non-creamy layer certificate issued between 1 April 2026 and the interview date, and EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2025-26, obtained before document verification at the interview.
Keep the email ID and mobile number you registered with switched on and checked. SBI has said further details for shortlisted candidates will go out by SMS and email.
The job at the end of it
The drive is for 1,500 posts: 588 unreserved, 390 OBC, 234 SC, 144 ST and 144 EWS, including 54 backlog vacancies. Starting basic pay is Rs 48,480 plus four advance increments in Junior Management Grade Scale I, and SBI puts the approximate cost to company at the initial scale at its Mumbai centre at Rs 21.97 lakh. New officers sign a Rs 2 lakh bond to serve at least three years and stay on probation for two years.
On 1 July 2026, SBI issued a corrigendum removing a clause that would have required candidates with loan or credit card defaults in their credit records to clear them before joining. That condition no longer applies to this recruitment.
