Samsung starts One UI 9 rollout on Galaxy S26 phones

SEOUL / NEW DELHI: Samsung Electronics said on 25 September 2026 that One UI 9 is expanding beyond the Galaxy foldables that got it first, with the official rollout now opening on the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The India newsroom note lists the software as already live on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 at the time of publication. Other Galaxy models are expected to receive the update in phases. Samsung has not published a complete India model-by-model calendar in the same release.

For Indian Galaxy owners, the practical takeaway is simple: if you are on an eligible S26-series handset and the update appears under Software update, this is the official One UI 9 build Samsung is shipping, not a beta channel.

What One UI 9 adds on day one

Samsung frames One UI 9 around Galaxy AI features that help users capture, personalise and manage devices with fewer taps. My FanCam, which needs a Samsung Account, tracks a selected person in a recorded video and reframes the clip so the subject stays centred. The company says results can vary and are not guaranteed when no clear subject is present.

Now Brief gains generative and editable cards so users can shape daily summaries around health, weather and video. Warranty and Care moves warranty checks, self-diagnostics, repair estimates and Samsung Care+ booking into Settings for devices linked to the same Samsung Account. Availability of Care+ and repair estimates still differs by country and model.

Now Nudge surfaces context-aware suggestions inside supported messaging apps, including Samsung Messages and Google Messages. Creative Studio can propose image ideas tied to upcoming events such as a birthday. Interpreter adds a Thread View for translated chats, Document Scan improves curved book pages and folded corners, and Voice Recorder presents summaries with clearer headings and tables.

Conversation Mode translation is described as faster, with quicker playback when paired with compatible Galaxy Buds. Those gains are software-side claims; network conditions and language packs still shape real-world speed.

Security tools and India-specific notes

Security Brief pushes malware alerts, unknown-source app warnings and unnecessary-permission notices into Now Brief. Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to flag background permission behaviour on a listed set of recent Galaxy phones and tablets, spanning S26 down through several Fold, Flip and Tab S lines in Samsung's footnote.

Scam Detection, previously limited in some markets, is being widened; Samsung's footnotes name India among the countries where the feature will be available, alongside Japan and Canada in the same list.

Several AI tools need a Samsung Account and a network connection. Feature sets still vary by language, carrier and device. Samsung did not claim a simultaneous India download for every listed model on 25 September; owners should check Settings rather than assume an overnight push. Older Galaxy phones outside the footnote lists should not expect Privacy Alerts or every Galaxy AI card on day one.

Update cadence on Galaxy phones in India has often stretched across weeks after a global start date. Nothing in the 25 September note changes that pattern. Users who want the new FanCam or Warranty and Care menus should keep automatic download enabled and confirm they are signed into the same Samsung Account used for Care+ devices. Enterprise-managed handsets may see the package later if an MDM policy delays consumer trains.
