Sahil alias Cheeta Held in Udyog Vihar Abduction Case

GURUGRAM: A 23-year-old man with a Rs 5,000 reward on his head has been arrested in a May abduction-for-ransom case from Udyog Vihar, police said, taking the number of accused in custody in the file to 11.

The arrested man has been identified as Sahil alias Cheeta, a resident of Badli village in Jhajjar district. Police said he has two previous cases, including assault, attempt to murder and Arms Act offences.

The complaint dates to 8 May. A businessman who runs an Ayurvedic medicine unit in Udyog Vihar Phase 5 told police he was riding his motorcycle from office towards his house in Kapashera, Delhi, when seven or eight men in a car forced him into the vehicle and beat him. They allegedly demanded Rs 7 lakh, drove him to a secluded spot, and pressed him to arrange the money. His brother transferred Rs 20,000. The men later left him at a deserted place and fled. A case of kidnapping, extortion and assault was registered on 9 May.

Sahil was among those named for the reward after the first arrests. In June, police had already held another 23-year-old, Nitin alias Chhota, of Maraut village in Jhajjar, also carrying a Rs 5,000 bounty. That arrest followed an encounter in which, police said, Nitin was armed and one of his bullets struck an officer's bulletproof vest. A separate case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered then.

Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said investigation and court process are continuing. The remaining work on a file like this is usually banking and phones: who received the Rs 20,000, which car was used on the Kapashera stretch, and whether the group that bundled the complainant off Udyog Vihar is the same group that has been picking up other businessmen for short, violent ransom holds.

Udyog Vihar Phase 5 sits on a corridor of factories, warehouses and evening motorcycle traffic towards the Delhi border. Abduction crews have used that mix before — a victim leaving work, a car that can vanish into village roads towards Jhajjar, a demand that is large on the call and small in the actual transfer. Rs 7 lakh was the ask; Rs 20,000 is what moved. That gap is why police treat the case as a gang file rather than a one-off quarrel.

With 11 people in custody, including two men who had cash rewards announced, the crime branch will now press for the weapon trail from the June encounter and for any other pending abduction complaints that share the same numbers or vehicles. Turan said legal proceedings are on. The complainant, police said, had approached them after he was dumped and made his way back. The May 9 FIR is the spine of the case; Sahil's arrest is the latest name added to it.
