VARANASI — In a major development aimed at fast-tracking urban infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh administration has officially suspended all property transactions and land registrations across 53 villages and localities in Varanasi. The move is designed to facilitate the seamless acquisition of land for two ambitious mega-projects: the Ganga Elevated Road and the Varuna Link Connector Corridor.

Projects Overview

These projects are central to the government’s plan to decongest Varanasi’s historic urban core and improve connectivity between key national highways:

  • Ganga Elevated Road: An 18-km elevated corridor proposed to run parallel to the Ganga River.

  • Varuna Link Connector Corridor: A 21.153-km four-lane corridor designed to connect the Varanasi Ring Road with National Highway-31 (NH-31).

Scope of the Restrictions

To prevent unauthorized transactions and potential speculation during the land acquisition phase, the administration has placed an immediate ban on all property-related activities in the identified areas. The prohibition covers:

  • Sale and purchase of land

  • Registration of deeds

  • Gift transfers

  • Land-use modifications

  • Government land allotments

The ban will remain in effect until further official instructions are issued by the district authorities.

Affected Areas

The acquisition process spans across both Sadar and Pindra tehsils, impacting a total of 53 villages and localities.

The 11 affected areas include:

  • Ramna, Domri, Sir Govardhanpur, Chhittupur, Bhagwanpur, Sujabad, Nangwa, Naria, Kila Kohna, Kodopur, Ramnagar, and Wazidpur.
